Been to hospital for 3red infusion of taxol ( 3 weeks one week off 18 infusions)

Could not have treatment today as bloods low. Really worried as only at starting block for this treatment and now wondering whether I can see through the long haul. Any advice or experience please. X

Mlowery, you will be able to go on...many of us experience low blood counts while on Chemotherapy. I had drops in both my white and red blood cell counts to levels where I needed a break and/or a boost (shots or blood transfusion) to increase counts to levels where chemo can continue. It's likely they'll give you a week off and check again. If still low they'll recommend a solution. This is likely a temporary setback and you will be able to complete treatment. Fear not.

In the meantime, rest, eat healthfully (if you can) and avoid others if they are ill (if your white blood cells are low, you are more susceptible to infection).

Wishing you the best and hoping you get back to treatment soon.

Thank you so much for replying this has never happened to me before . I am relieved in a way because I felt myself my body hadn’t bounced back . It is so easy to go to the dark side. You ladies have helped me greatly.

Strange but as you do dr google kicks in and one bit of advice was to restrict blackberries and black grapes as these affect platelets. I have been eating loads on my breakfast every morning recently. True or myth not sure I thought I was eating healthily.

Upwards and onwards thank you for your reassuring words greatly appreciated. Best wishes to you and hope you are keeping well

I am sure your bloods will pick up again with rest, eat red meat including liver and also green veg is good. You are having down time and that is normal. Is there a support within your hospital, ie Macmillan etc that you can link up with. Ask at your next chemo

I’ve not had Taxol but know it can be tough. I’ve had constant blood problems with my gaps being longer than I would like.

Do you have a CNS

There’s some great info on the Macmillan website

We're almost in sync - I'm having my 3rd next week.

I always have problems with bloods, of one kind or another. At different times, I've had blood and platelet transfusions and G-CSF for the neutrophils, so there are "medical" aids.

I also try and focus my diet to support the body, in particular iron boosting. Also drink papaya leaf tea for the platelets and neuts. There've been some ups and downs but I do think this approach makes a difference.

Don't despair!
