So today I had two hospital appointments first one at 9 o’clock to see if the dreaded catheter can come out (. no luck there ).

Next appointment with consultant to get histology report, unfortunately no clear ink margins, he had resected 6cm of the upper vagina and all margins came back positive for HGSC, even though the tumour was only 2.7cm and 3 lymph nodes positive.

I have an appointment tomorrow back at the Royal Surrey cancer unit to discuss chemo, the positive that came out of today was, no reason why platinum won’t work again.

I thought today getting negative margins would be superb news, and getting the catheter out would just top it off, but it wasn’t meant to be and I am feeling a bit deflated.

At least you've got an appointment tomorrow so not long to wait but I can understand how deflating it is. We hope and then our hopes are dashed.

I guess when we're told, no visible disease, this is why recurrence happens, in so much as there are cancerous cells in the margins, which are invisible to the naked eye. That so much has been removed must stand you in good stead with the chemo blitzing the rest. I can't remember, did the surgeon take the lymph nodes as well?

Good luck you say goodbye to that catheter soon.

All the best!

Helen

Helen I had 3 lymph nodes removed and they came back positive, you are so right ref recurrence. I will get up tomorrow and think get on with it, onwards and upwards as they say.

Would have been great to get rid of the catheter . Ah well...

I think your diagnosis sounds similar to an optimally debulked state though. The fact that no more tumours are visible does not mean there are no cells left in the body somewhere.. which might or might not cause mischief at some point in the future. That said.. maybe it will be a long time before they cause trouble.. or not at all, especially after chemo. Hoping for that anyway.

It it can't be avoided, hop onto that chemo train, Ellsey, and share a non-alcoholic ginger drink with us.

What crushing news. But at least they have caught it and platinum Chemo might just slaughter it all again.

But what a drag.

Did you cave the BRCA test? Just wondering... as maybe a parp inhibitor will be in your future.

So sorry this has struck again after being so well for so long.

Best wishes to you,

Laura

Laura I had BRCA & Lynch testing back in 2016, both negative I had Lynch testing as my dad had bowel cancer at 51 and survived, however his brother died at 49 with bowel cancer.
