Side effects letrozole

Hi everyone Happy Easter.

I am 7 weeks from 2nd line chemo. Stable .Taking Letrozole stayed 1.3.18 for maintenance. Been having joint pain side effects first few weeks. Last few days have been having pain in hips and back. Been walking quite a bit. Worried it is the cancer kicking up. Has anybody else had pain in hips and back on Letrozole. Hoping I have just been over doing it. Anybody else experienced this.

Hi, it could be the letrozole and it could be you overdoing things. I was on Letrozole for 2 1/2 years and I did experience some joint pain in my hands. I do know it doesn't suit everyone though and some ladies have struggled with bad joint pain. Maybe try cutting back a bit on the walking and try taking glucosamine and chondroitin for the joint pain. My Onc recommended this and it seems to help (I stopped taking it for a couple of weeks over Christmas when I ran out and I noticed the difference). Hope this helps, love Kerry X

Hi, I’ve been on letrozole for nearly 2 years & get a lot of joint pain & stiffness, especially in my hips. It’s a very common side effect.

I’m 52 but my hips & also knees can be so painful at times I stagger around like a 90 year old. My knuckles & wrists are quite bad too and get swollen. I do get some back & neck pain but my hips are the worst. I find regular but gentle exercise helps as do magnesium baths. My joint pain got gradually worse for the first 6 mths I took Letrozole & then it levelled out. It makes me a bit grumpy cos I can’t do as much physical stuff as I want/used to do!

Any pain is such a worry.

Best wishes to you. Deborah

Hi

Thank you for taking the time to reply. It does make sense that it is the Letrozole maybe I need to pace myself more and realise 5 mile a day walking is not achievable. Thank you you have

Settled me down. I will mention it to my onc. next appointment. I don’t even know if I am ER positive. It’s frustrating to put up with pain if the tablets don’t work. I quest sometimes its best not knowing it gives me hope. If that doesn’t sound mad

Best wishes to you

You could try yoga. I have been on Letrozole for many years and find that as soon as I have an enforced break from yoga for any reason, I get all sorts of aches and pains. When doing yoga at least once a week I get no pain. It seems to oil the works! S x
