Hi Marta: So sorry about your hair, all of it. I started losing mine [for the 2nd time] 10 days and 2 treatments after carbo, second round no taxol, had reaction 1st time around. But good news, it actually grew back, not much different than it was to begin with. I've read and heard all kinds of stories about curly as opposed to straight and different color. I became really insulted when I found out I didn't have any eyelashes. Don't know why, didn't know it until I was told. Hidden behind eyeglasses, and when off, couldn't see them anyway. And so it goes, you never know when that one thing is going to hit you the wrong way. So look for a good hat and mush on girl. We're all here for you and I wish you many blessings, Eileen

I was on carbo/abraxane due to the reaction the first time. In between I was on Zejula, broke out in rash on insteps and later back of thigh. Next to last treatment, this protocol, broke out from carbo. Big rash, strange feeling in my entire torso & head. Cortisone did nothing for it and I could actually watch rash coming from my hands up my wrists and arms. Then I got another round of benedryl. That stopped it . But that episode took all the starch out of me for 3 weeks. But, I am now done with this recommended series, waiting for CT scan to find out whats still trying to hang on in there. I feel so weak and short of breath with everything I try to do. They keep saying my numbers aren't bad. Well, why do I feel so drained?

All you gals are going on trips and I can barely get to the grocery store. I have energy envy. Can you send me some?

Happy Easter/Passover to all. Many Blessings Eileen

Eyelashes and eyebrows were later but I lost all my head hair almost immediately after chemo two. Stand with your back to the shower and head tilted for if you’re facing the shower it all falls into your nise and mouth. A towel placed on your pillow can keep hairs out if your bed.

10 days after chemo 2. I had a tuft at the top front of my head that lasted for several more treatments. It was interesting to see how long it lasted. Eyebrows seemed to go last. When it came back it was a lot more curly (was naturally wavy). Never really aspired to the poodle 🐩 look!

Eyebrows and lashes suddenly reappeared.

Similar to everyone else - 2.5 after first chemo coming out in handfuls. Gave in after 2nd chemo and had the remainder shaved off.

Sorry you are losing your hair. It’s very tough at first. But you will get through it.

I tried the cold cap, so mine falling out was a bit delayed.. maybe 4-5 weeks. Eyelashes etc much later on.

I wish you the best of luck xx

It fell out fairly steadily from the first chemo on. But it did come back wildly curly, it used to have a bit of a wave to it. It's lush and thick and I went blonde as well (I was dark-haired). I still look like someone else in the mirror to me, but people tell me they like it "better than before".

I started to shed mine after 2nd chemo then my son shaved it all off as it looked a bit scruffy. After wore beautiful wig - hair soon grew back after chemo had finished and came back with a pretty wave

Hi

Head hair loss I found traumatic but remember it will come back once treatment is finished. Be thankful no plucking or shaving is a bonus but watch out for drips on the dinner plate as you lose your nose hairs!

My hair came back same colour I have always have after original treatment and after first recurrence. Just about to face more chemo for second recurrence so we will see what happens this time.

Love and hugs

Maureen xx

I reckon about 2.5weeks sounds about right! I was most amused that my pubic hair went first. A very bizarre experience. Eyebrows clung on for dear life and finally waved the white flag about 4 weeks after chemo finished, so just as my hair was growing back, my eyes were bald!

Good luck - there are some advantages to not having any hair...not many, but some!

Ha ha. Yes no braziluan waxing and will certainly save money on haircare products😉

And the time to do something with your hair. Ya think that's what the play HAIR was about? Boy, we could collectively write a sitcom. You just can't make this stuff up. Thanks for all the laughs.

And if you think someone's tickling your nose in the middle of the night, you're right. But it's your hair!

I didn’t have Taxol so didn’t lose my hair. It did thin on carboplatin and it seems to Be thinning now without carboplatin 🤔

I did check out some amazing scarves and bandanas though. Are you going to choose a wig or not sure yet?

Best of luck with treatment

Hi. I have decided to opt out from having a wig:/ will stick with scarfs and beanie hats. But may still change my mind whilst they all gone. Today my scalp is driving me insanes. Hair pulls on it and its quite uncomfortable so shaving will happend sooner as anticipated..

Hi Marta! I started losing my hair about three weeks after my first chemo. My scalp started hurting and within a week, I could pull out lots of strands. That's about the time you might want to take the steps to cut short or go ahead and shave your head. It's gonna happen anyway. I loved being bald after the first shock wore off. Never wore a wig. My kids and grandkids had a shaving party where they feed my hair all kinds of colors before they shaved me.

Your hair starts growing back about 6 weeks after last chemo. Lashes and brows take a bit longer.

My hair came back salt and pepper. Not happy about that because my hair was very long and very white and straight. I did love the chemo curls, tho.

You'll be fine. Accept the new you, have fun with it and keep checking in here with all of these lovely ladies of teal.

I'm 4 weeks into last chemo and I see PEACH FUZ!! I caught it in the sun shining on my head while standing in the mirror. While washing my hands. I don't just stand in the mirror. Oh, you get it. Eileen

I too was diagnosed Dec. 21,2016. It was not the Christmas present I wanted. I immediately went to my friends church thrift store and bought all the ugly glasses and mugs and went outside to the dumpster and threw those things one by one to relieve a lot of stress.

Jan 3, 2017 I had the big surgery. I call it big because incision was 13 inches long. Then this nitwit PT person was wanting me to walk down the street, & other exercise. I told him to come back after his belly has been cut open and then we can talk. What a nitwit.

Came home totally constipated and have continued that way until the present. I read all the meds and nothing worked for me until I took 4 bisacodyl and suffered with the cramps. not I have Trulance, $98 for 30 and worth every penny. Someone asked "what could be worse than death? They answered constipation. I have to agree. 14 months straight has been a nightmare. Any other good cures are so welcome

MartaCiom profile image

Dear Eileen. I am happy tge meds started working. Yes the constipation was one of tge worse side effects for me. As my bowels were cut as well and ckeared of endometriosis I felt as if I had the worse colics ever but with time it has gone! For me best solution was boiling dry fruits like apples pears prunes with cinnamon and cardamon and drinking it throught the day. Walking helped as well! But i completely agree - after the op your best advice is your body...i felt pushed to walk after my first op (long vertical cut from belly bottom down pubic bone...and previous 2 c sections so loads of scarring) and ended up throwing up on those lovely velvetty armchairs in corridor...after 2nd op I was straightforward and said to physios and nurses that I will stand on my feet when my body is ready...

I started to lose mine about two weeks after the first chemo appointment...by the second appointment most of it had gone. I love ❤️ bassets!! We've always had them in my family. I would so love to have one now, sadly I live on the 3rd floor of a building, stairs are not basset-friendly. 🙄. Xxxx

Yes I did too first time around- have you got a wig sorted. Good points- saves shaving your legs. Will grow back pretty quickly though afterwards with a little bit of a wave which I didn’t have before. I’m now on caelyx and carboplatin this time and feel more nauseous and tired. I know how sad I felt when my hair went, I got it shaved then wore a wig/scarves. That actually opened me up to different styles and made me feel quite good. So try not to despair ok. Make sure you pamper yourself - to make you feel extra nice and don’t keep your clothes for special occasions. Keep me up to date with how you’re feeling about your hair loss - it won’t be for too long - this time next year it will be in the passed and you mop will soon return.

Take care xx
