Doxil experiences???

It was one year ago today I was diagnosed with Ovarian, Stage 3C cancer. I had surgery to remove my ovaries, tubes and major debulking of my omentum. Began 6 cycles of Paclitaxol/Carboplatin Chemo and was cancer free from April 2016- Sept 2016, and then it returned. 😞 I was started on Doxil and was happy to hear that my hair wouldn't fall out and nausea and most side effects were minimal. WOW, was that soooooo not the case. My hair isn't falling out but, I have never experienced this kind of nausea, abdominal pain & discomfort, loss of appetite, lack of energy and motivation. I have continually felt like I have the flu. AND, I have had to have a paracentesis 4 times so far. The ascites is a constant. I am miserable. Has anyone else experienced this with Doxil?????

Thanks in advance for any input and experiences.

~Suz

Hi Suz, Sorry to hear you are having a hard time on Doxil it is also called Caelyx.

I had Caelyx for 3 rd line treatment one every 4 weeks for 6 months it was worth it, some ladies have hardly any side effect I had most of them a horrible rash, blisters under my arms and my toe nail went black and lifted off my toe..☹

I did manage the 6 months, my oncologist gave me steroid cream for the blisters and use moisturizer for the rash heaps of moisturizer. I'm now just finishing carbo /caelyx as 5th line treatment with good results.

Type in the Search My Ovacome box at the top and press enter, you will read post from ladies about Caelyx with advice a tips to handle side effect

Do ask you team as Jessica said they can help with your side effects.

Take care Lorraine xx

I had 3 infusions of caelyx with little trouble. But then it was stopped as it was having no effect on my cancer. Di

I had caelyx x3 then it was stopped as not working. I got nausea, lack of appetite, now just had 3 litres ascites drained. No hair loss but thinning.. very sore feet peeled.

Now on a trial at RM.

Oh man. I sure hope the new treatment works for you. I'm worried about this not working for me. I've been told many times not to count on the CA125 number but mine quadrupled after the second infusion. 😦 Hope #'s are better this time. I had 2750ml's drained today from my abdomen. πŸ˜’πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

Hi Anthea, what trial are you on if you don't mind me asking.

Hi I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time on this drug. My Mum is on this and it's not doing her much good either. I'm sorry I can't give advice but I thought I'd pipe up to let you know you're not alone :) hugs

Thank you very much for taking time to respond to my post. I'm sorry to hear about your Mum. I hope she feels better. I have to look at it positively and remember that I am halfway through my treatments so, not much longer to go. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness in responding. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘πŸ»

Hello suz my mom is 53 and was diagnosed oct2016 with stage 3c endometrial she had a total hystorectomy had the fatty tissur removed and i forget how many lymph nodes and had 6 rounds of the carboplatin. She finished chemo and radiation in june and we ended up in the emergency room in august because her kidney was not draining right due to tumor growth. She has started the doxil only one sessions so far and she says a lot of pain in the hips and i have noticed the fatigue is much more worse then last chemo. They were also going to put hee on avastan but it wasnt approved for first treatment by her insurance....i understand u must keep very hydrated. She drinks ginger tea all day long for nausea. Also hands and feet must be hydrated....why did u have paraencitis? What is that ? ..... How many rounds of doxil have u had and are you taking this with anythjng else?
