Pituitary gland on the blink

All during chemo my thyroid hormone levels crazy. I have been on thyroxine for 15 years. Now, a year & a half after finishing chemo, my TSH is 28 (way off the chart) but t4 normal at 15. Very strange.

So, doc wants a scan to see if there is a tumour in pituitary gland, rarely malignant but still needs to be sorted he says. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Sherrym, I am on levothyroxine for an under active thyroid diagnosed a year before my ovarian cancer (stage 3b). Can I ask were your thyroid levels checked by the hospital each time you had chemo? Mine were never mentioned to me at all. I did pile on a ?lot of weight though, I know the steroids gave me the munchies but am now wondering if it could in part be down to the thyroid. Thanks . Ann xx

I had my thyroid gland taken out due to cancer when i was in my twenties. I have been on l-thyroxine for over 30 years. My TSH jumps all over the place. Going from hypo- to hyper in a few months. I am constantly adjusting my dose. My doc says this is normal as we age, not just from the chemo. hope it helps.

My doc wants scan of pituitary gland so I guess I will see what he says afterwards. I feel fine & frankly, fifty times more worried my ovarian cancer will come back!!

Isn't that the truth. What seemed to worry us before is way down the list from cancer.

Keep us posted. Xx Carol

Hi same thing with me however my TSH is 0.01 and my T3 was st 12, I've just had a thyroid uptake scan and it is showing a toxic nodule on left lobe, I am now on anti thyroid medication and waiting to see a thyroid specialist, this was six months post chemo.
