Well I've tried and tried.... CANNOT get insurance . Today I've tried Free spirt and MIA . Not interested. Looks like I'll have to take my E111 card and credit card in case I'm ill. Feeling very anxious about the whole thing. It's so are enough going with stage 4 ...let alone uninsured. Any suggestions??
Thank you xxxxx

Yep tried Insure With.. No luck. Is it because I'm stage 4 . I'm sure I've seen other ladies insured stage 4. My Chemo finishes June 2nd we go away 17rh July !
When I was looking insurewith said to call them 2 weeks after chemo and they would be able to give me a quote, not sure if that helps but worth a try. Also have u tried boots travel insurance they always seem to come up with a quote x
Try these people at payingtoomuch.com they were recommended to me by an 80 year old who was in really poor health having had an aneurysm and was on daily blood thinners, and got a really good deal.
Insure with turned me down as was due my 5th chemo ..and 6th due 2nd June and they said it's not long enough gap! x
so it's nothing to do with stage 4 most of us get same treatment anyway for front line.
I'd probably agree with insurance co that 5-6 weeks after last chemo it's still is under high risk and side effects....
just read in your other post that you are Terminal since 2015?
I don't think anyone will insure you with this diagnosis to be honest. even if you don't tell them, they will find out and will void your insurance.... I'm really lost what could be done then.
Thing is told I was Terminal.... But he also said all stage 4 Ovarian Cancer is terminal. There is no cure just maintained. My new oncologist says he doesn't ever give a time . Gutted ...x
Terminal is such a harsh word - palliative is what I say -. Can't cure but managing symptoms as well as I, my meds, palliative nurse and oncologist can. (Etc etc)
'Terminal' to me, means my last few weeks or days of life when I am showing all the symptoms of end of life.
Can you postpone your holiday to have a longer gap after chemo? That's probably all that's needed...
We could cancel but we are going with family and I soo want to go as probably my last.... sorry morbid.... Oncologist happy for me to go. I'm really well doing everything I always did . I'm lucky. See if I can find insurance after chemo finishes in early June. Yes terminal nasty word. Don't like palliative either lol xx
what a lot of rubbish.
terminal is you have 12 months or less to live. stage 4 you can live 80 year with or without treatment.
Can you find someone to insure you, excluding the cancer? That might be an option?
I used Insurance With when I went on my end of chemo holiday last year - they would only quote me once I was 3 weeks out from the end of chemo. It was only £40 for the week. I was stage 3 at diagnosis.
Have you tried Eurotunnel? Others have recommended in the past....
If your oncologist is happy, I'd persevere with the dispiriting phone calls.
And about January's point about cancellation cover... The policies I've had from MIA have not included cancellation for anything cancer related.
They take account, as I understand it, of the state of the health services in the destination country and I think they are not too keen on Greece, except perhaps mainland and Crete. So perhaps it's this rather than you that's the problem for them.....
Hi, just got back from Norway 2 days ago and managed to get travel insurance with via Insurance with. I'm staged3c , finished my chemo last March but still on maintenance avastin.. It cost £54 for a week and £300 excess, I thought they will not insure me as I'm still on avastin.. I didn't need it but you just want a relax holiday just in case.. I hope you get insurance soon.. Good luck.. Xxxx
I think I cannot get insurance as I still have 1 more chemo on 2nd June but fly on 17th July I think they think it's too soon to insure me. It's a dilemma. Will go without insurance and take a loaded credit card in case. OR not go. Another thing that is bothering me I never got a scan whilst having chemo. They promised me one last week still not got one so no idea how chemo has worked. I've asked twice and nothing happens....xxx
They wouldn't insure me until I was 3-weeks post-chemo. This took me to about 3 days before my holiday...called them up and it was sorted straight away. Might be worth retrying once you've finished.
If I were you and you want to go that much just take a credit card and go! I've just come back from Spain with the girls with nothing and going away with hubby in June for 9 days with just normal insurance. You're not far from home in Greece so can always fly back if you have to. I'm sure you'll be fine.... just do it! X
Hi. Yes that's what we are going to do. Oncologist said I can go. I want to go. My family want me to go. Just make sure my next chemo on 2nd goes ok . We booked the holiday before all the chemo so maybe we shouldve waited but we can always cancel. You me it's not the be all. X
Remember that it's an EHIC card now, not an E111. Apply now if you haven't got one. Check the expiry date if you do have one, as I think they have to be renewed after a set number of years. Might be 5 years, can't remember for certain!
Then relax and enjoy your holiday.
All the best,
Barbara
You do need to have travel insurance.
Cancer may not be our only problem. You could be involved in a road accident or have a stroke. And not be able to travel back. My father had two of them, abroad. We'd have been bankrupt if he hadn't been insured. Air ambulances are not cheap.
If you get your travel insurance as soon as you book your holiday, any unforeseens will be covered.
Health related matters are the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US......
Absolutely agree with Mac on this one! Medical repatriation is thousands and thousands of pounds. An EHIC only covers you to a certain extent, but it certainly isn't 'free' medical care in your host country. When my daughter was transferred by ambulance in the middle of the night, I was presented with a bill for €700 at the destination hospital and I only had the clothes on my back! Travel insurance covered it for me (plus the emergency hotel costs, an daily allowance for incidentals, flights home etc etc).

I've used Mia but won't insure till 6 weeks before. You could use e111 and take out insurance for everything except cancer if you can't get it so at least if anything else happens your covered. Do you have a letter from doctor saying fit to travel.
I remembered a post from the PennyBrohn HU community which mentions a travel insurance company called Alpha Travel really positively. I hadn't heard it mentioned elsewhere & don't have direct experience but it might be worth investigating... Here's a link to the post, the poster mentions she was taking oral chemo at the time....
Open Travel Insurance do an over 50's annual worldwide travel insurance policy especially for members of the Women's Institute. There is no medical declaration and it costs £ 185. They do couple and family ones for about £275. After Insurewith quoted me £1800 I bit off their hand!
Please don't give up with trying for the travel insurance. There seems to be no rhyme of reason to who will cover us and what they charged. I was off to the Caribbean 3c and just 3 weeks post chemo, mets all over peritoneal cavity but Ned. Some wouldn't cover me including insurewith, others quoted two thousand pounds and eventual world first insurance under ninety but with four hundred pounds excess.
