Hello, am I right in thinking you have breast cancer? This site is specifically for ovarian cancer and as such we probably do not have information on this medication.

Health unlocked have specific groups for breast cancer. If you click on My Communities you should be able to search for them.

All the best to you!

I had breast cancer in 2003 when I was put on Arimidex for 5 years. In 2015 I developed ovarian cancer and now have become carboplatin resistant so doctor suggested tomoxifen but because of previous bad side effects then said to try Arimidex and I was wondering if anyone else was on this for oc and if it was helpful.

Thanks again x

Hoping there might be someone along who has experience of it. I haven't. Sorry to read you've experienced two cancers.

Hi Gerty, I had breast cancer and mastectomy in 2006. I did not have chemo at that time. After surgery, they put me on Arimidex (aromatase inhibitor) as neoadjuvant hormal therapy for the BC. I had side effects and stopped taking it. FYI, I had read that Arimidex increases a woman's likelihood for other female cancers. That is the primary reason I stopped taking it. I now have ovarian cancer, currently NED. I have long wondered if the Arimidex may have caused the OC. I found the Arimidex studies through Biomedical Publications. Tesla

be careful with hormone therapy. There are some breast and ovarian cancers that are caused by too much estrogen and progesterone in your body. I've been advised to stay off of it.

I took Arimidex for 6 months 4 years ago as part of a trial with oc. After that time it was not having effect on my cancer, so it was discontinued, but there may be others who had more luck. I think the main side effects for me were a few hot flushes at the beginning, & some tiredness, although, as I was recovering from surgery when I started taking it, I guess that would have caused some of the tiredness. I have also tried some of the other hormone treatments, & don't regret trying them. Di PS I was told that Arimidex reduces the amount of oestrogen in the body. I have a type of oc called gct, which produces oestrogen itself, & I was told the Arimidex would interfere with that.
