Hi. Just a question which you all may think silly but.. is it ok to go to Slimming World to help me loose some weight I've gained . ? Didn't know if anyone else had done this...
I seem to have put a lot of excess weight on. I mean on steroids but gradually reducing them now on only 3mg a day.
I did ask the Physcolgy Oncologist if I could do running ad long walks he said oh yes!!!
Wondered what your thoughts are ?
Thank you x

I am still on last two treatments put a lot of weight on can't stop eating starting weight watchers next thur can't see it being a problem going to a slimming class xxx
I think it's all about how you feel. Growing research indicates that exercise and being outdoors is great for your wellbeing. I also believe that what you eat affects your wellbeing. I cut down sugar significantly two years ago and found my energy shoot up as a result.
I don't think it 'looks silly' if you are terminal. If you hated every second and felt no benefit, then I think that may be a different matter, regardless of your prognosis. But doing stuff and having a greater feeling of wellbeing has got to be good for anyone.
Hi there, I finished my treatment last March/April & I have just re-started Slimming World,& I am finding it quite difficult,I need to lose a stone or so, Ihave managed to lose a couple of pounds. A few years back I was given steroids for an infection I had in my thyroid & I found it very difficult to get the weight off then. I try to walk each day which helps, but of course this time of year that is dependant on the weather.
Anyway, nothing wrong in having a go & good luck with it.
When you say terminal, do you mean that the oncologists have given a timescale? I'm never to sure what that means really.. I'm sorry , I hope I've not upset you by asking ..
No not upset me at all ! I as given 3/6 months 18 months ago .... still here. I restart the chemo fingers crossed Tuesday. Bloods were too low before Christmas. Only carboplatin as Taxol made me so ill ..blood clot and heart problem. Still fighting!! xx
Thank you. I've totally convinced myself it's back. Stomach ache although dull but there since before Christmas... awful pain in back and ribs. Don't know what Oncologist will say tomorrow hoping for scan I guess . Chemo due to restart Tues. Extremely frightened this time. Like everyone on here I want my life back...sadly that will be very happen. How does everyone cope with that I'll never know.. xxx
I go to Slimming World! Hmm, let me rephrase that. I mentally go to SW but haven't physically been since November. When I lost half a stone. Back from next Thursday. The steroids are a nightmare, piles on the weight and when you finish them the weight is still there.
Although they say no cancer patients that's not strictly true, when I spoke to my leader her son had leukemia but was still eating the SW way as that is all she serves up. I won't say when I join my new group.
Hi your so right about steroids I'm trying to reduce mine. I was 9 stone at the start of all this cancer stuff gutted I'm so fat now. Do lots of walking with dogs .I'd love to go back to the gym but settled for a secrete r on our running machine. My motto is ...What's it gping to do?....kill me? My oncologist laughs at that saying.
I'd like o feel more like me then try to lookikea me again ha ha!!
It's hard though steroids are a nightmare long term.
Yes I went to SW and lost 2 stone didn't think that was possible have tried everything else that was 2years ago. The weight is still off. Although I wasn't having any treatment at the time. Some hospitals do like you to have some weight on when you are having chemo. Mine did but I was getting fed up of the Mr Blobby look. If you do go stay for the talk after you gain a lot from it and you do make friendships. Now you can get SW frozen meals from Iceland. Which is a bonus if you don't feel like cooking. Good Luck πBarbara
If you want go to slimming world you can also join online and have the magazine sent to you, It does work. Forget about terminal, and Slimming world is about good eating with good food. Loosing weight is essential for us to stay well, and I also need to do something about my extra kgs too
Hi Ricky - I know how you feel and it's tough knowing there's no cure but you should do what makes you feel good. I have about 2 stone to shift and hope to do so by summer as I feel sluggish on top of the fatigue from chemo! Keep up the fight and let us know how it goes - good luck x
I joined SW after chemo to loose my chemo / steroid weight, had never done anything like it before but the sudden extra weight bothered me a lot. It fitted really well with the nutrition advice from Penny Brohn so lots of veg, whole grain rice, pulses, good protein and a few treats of the things you enjoy...!
i lost the weight gradually also doing plenty of walking, Zumba gold (which definitely lifted my spirits as well as heart rate), Pilates and some swimming (not much though as really don't like chlorine!)
I think the important thing is to do what works for you! Sx
Wow that's amazing. I think Ibe pushed the boat out going up two flights of stairs. I love veg etc but have to avoid much fruit and veg and anything wholewheat. Maybe we need an OC slimming club lol
Hi. I struggled to walk through the door on Thursday!! But went with my daughter. Felt a complete idiot fat faced from Steroids answer lack of hair !! I didn't get weighed as she went on and on yawn.... I had to leave as had to pick up daughter in law . But going Thursday to be weighed. but seeing Oncologist tomorrow and possibly starting chemo again Tuesday .
It is hard isn't it....I used a free membership voucher out of Bella xxx
