Recovery after hysterectomy

Hi Ladies,

I had my surgery on 13 th July full hysterectomy and debulking. I'm still very sore and need painkillers, wondered if it was normal. The wound has healed up nicely, I'm feeling a bit fed up sat around. Starting back on chemo on 1st August.

It took me a good 4 weeks before I was able to do without painkillers, but wound healed up fine, be patient it will get better xx

Thanks Beaniejan that's encouraging as I wasn't sure if it was healing it's very slow, I know it has been major surgery just inpatient xx

It takes some weeks before you start to feel better and yes Im not a very patient person.

Try and amuse yourself, I returned to knitting, reading books ect. You can't really do anything strenuous for at least 6 weeks,but a bit of gentle walking in this lovely weather helps,

I'm 5 weeks post op and feeling fairly normal now. I was taking pain killers regularly for about 2 weeks then intermittently for another week or so.

My tummy still very swollen did yours go down ?

I think mine is still a bit puffy now, but it's improved since the time immediately post-op. I think this whole thing just takes time, which is frustrating when all you want is to feel normal again! I've only just started wearing trousers again as I couldn't bear anything with a waistband touching my scar.

Yes I had the same experience. I found chemo to not be as bad as I expected But everyone is different in how they tolerate the treatment. All the best on your journey.

It takes about 6 weeks for the knitting back together to occur, is what i found after my own op. I can't really comment on your individual wound just say I don't think it is unusual to take painkillers for a few weeks after but would worry if the pain was alarming and hard to control. I was given ibuprofen 600 for once a day for a few weeks after, and pantoprazol, but my pain was moderate to minor really once two weeks had passed.

Every one of us is different though and i hope your gp or consultant can help you out and give you the appropriate pain killers so you can sleep and keep healing. The worst should be over after all now.

It was quite the surgery! Had no idea what to expect and it certainly was not easy. Two weeks after surgery started chemo ( Taxel/Carbo). Again, wasn't easy! I did go into remission for 10 months but had to return to 2 nd round last Thursday. I'm understanding that it will be a fight but certainly worth getting a little beat up. This disease unfortunately does just magically disappear. I'm scared but always try to think positive which you should also do. Kill these cells and try to keep living.

Sorry to hear about your reoccurrence, it can't be easy, but glad your keeping positive. I speak to a lady in clinic that has battled with OC for 8 years she's amazing and a inspiration to me. I wish you well with your treatment. Love Ann x
