3 months post surgery diarrhea

I had an incarcerated hernia in January where they had to remove 11 cm of my small bowel.  I have had chronic diarrhea ever since.  And abdominal swelling.  I mentioned it to my surgeon and family doctor and both felt this was normal.  How long will this last?

Welcome to the site. I hope you'll find it a great source of friendship, support and information.

I had an incarcerated hernia following surgery 2.5 years ago. In my case, they managed to rescue the bowel. But I had an obstruction in January and I did have a section removed then. So.... putting these two experiences together....

Everyone says the bowel doesn't like being manipulated. On both occasions it's taken absolutely ages to settle down and then it hasn't returned to what feels like "normal".

The thing that really made a difference this time was going back on my probiotic supplements after I couldn't stand the amount of time I was spending in the bathroom.  Improvement within a day or two. When I mentioned this to the surgeon at clinic, he was not at all surprised.  The ones I take ( because they say they have 8 strains of gut bacteria and 30 billion live cultures ) are Nature's Aid Pro-30 max.

I'd certainly recommend giving  this a try.

Good luck with it all - it's really miserable. xxx

Thank you.  I've order a 30 capsule bottle.  How long did you take them?

I still take one every day.

I do an internet (not Amazon)  search to find the cheapest source each time I need more.

Improvement within a few days for me, but my bowel problems were a bit more varied than yours sound.

Good luck!

My mum had part of her small intestine removed due to a tumour. It took a few months for her stomach to go back down as well as the daily diarrhoea to stop. The bowel doesn't like to be touched we were told. X

I also had a portion of small bowel removed, after having emergency surgery for a strangulated hernia 3 years ago.  I too had diarrhoea at first.  I'm afraid I don't remember how long it lasted.         Di
