Has anyone had a reaction to chemo showing as a red rash and swelling from the hands spreading up the arms which feels as though you have been burnt or scalded??

My oncologist nurses say they have never seen this before!

I am on a regime of carboplatin and paclitaxel.

Any feedback welcome! thank you.

Hi HopeP,

I had an awful rash after my first treatment of carb taxel. No swelling though just the heat rash all over my body. I used after sun cream on it to cool it and thankfully it didn't come back the next time.

Wishing you the best of luck for the rest of your treatment.

Hi, I'm no Dr but it does sound to me like a allergic reaction to something. Strange that your nurse says she not seen it before. If it's still a concern I would suggest you see your Gp .

Good luck x

Hi, I have just finished carbo/Caylex and had a rash from on the back of my hands and all up my arms just on the top , not underneath, also on my neck at the front just were you have the v neck. This came up after number five, was under the skin, very red and blotchy, seemed to fade and then come back red, was not itchy, for about just under two weeks. My Oncologist was not worried and said it may go with the histamine and steroids given with chemo, and it did as I had number six.

Then as I had number six I had the red hand syndrome, plams of hands very red ünder the skin and itching. Just about fading now five weeks on.

I put it down to the Caylex but it may have been the carbo.

Hope it goes soon.

My last chemo was carbo taxol and I reacted progressively worse to the carbo element as the treatment went on.

The first thing I noticed with cycle 1, but didn't think anything much about it, was "heat rash" on my face and chest ( can't remember the hands one way or the other).

I didn't react like this to carbo the first time I had it.

I think I've read something somewhere about chemo rash.

Hi Hope......During my treatment, I developed decubitus ulcers on both my heels. They never broke through, but the skin was very red and tender. And, mind you, I was not bed bound by any stretch, so I don't know why it happened. None of the doctors (including the podiatrist) or nurses had ever seen that before.

After I finished my last chemo, I developed a rash on my arms and legs and some dryness on my face. Also, my lower legs felt tight and I did have some edema (swelling) in that area.

I think the chemo affects everyone differently. The heel ulcers, rash and everything else (except the neuropathy) has resolved, so take heart. It will get better. Just think about the chemo attacking the cancer and everything else will improve with time.

Best to you and your family.......Judy
