Heat rash or reaction to carb / taxol
Call your chemo helpline and check if you are OK to take piriton (or similar). I had a rash all over my body after carbo/taxol and the only thing that helped was regular doses of piriton. It was horrible but faded after about 3 days.
Hi Coxsar, I agree with Yoshbosh - Pirton or other antihistamine, but check first. Cool it down & try not to scratch. Advice from a Pharmacist in a chemist might help. I know E45 do an anti-itch cream which would be soothing. Lxx
Hi ladies Thankyou for your advice . I can take antihistamines advice from chemo suite. This rash is after having chemo 14 days ago but I feel really breathless today . I can manage to porter around the house but chest feels tight . Could this be low red blood count ?
I can’t say about the breathlessness, but do definitely take the antihistamines! My rash started about 10 days after chemo.
With my first injection of Taxol I got flushed and took Benadryl. But the following two times I received it I had breathing issues and a tight chest. I no longer take Taxol and have switched to another chemotherapy drug. I hope you're feeling better and me sharing this was helpful.
Not to be alarmist but breathlessness and tightness of check could be blood clots. If it gets worse, get to an emergency department and let them assess you. (It happened to me and thank goodness I went to emergency.)
Taking an oatmeal bath (I use Aveeno for baby exema here in US) helps a lot for me. Don't rinse after. Just pat dry gently. The chlorpheniramine malate pills I have taken for years for allergies and work great without having side effects and doesn't have interactions with other drugs either. Here in the States we also have Benadryl which the hospitals give when you are having an allergic reaction. That can cause some drowsiness and dry mouth though.
Good luck!

Hi Coxsar did they give you IV piriton before your Carbo/Taxol, On my 3rd session of carbo/taxol i got a rash 7 days after I used piriton tablets at home and it was gone in a day, I had avastin with my chemotherapy and then a 2 month break and when having avastin on its own I didn't have the IV piriton but I got a rash all down the arm which I had the avastin in so took piriton again and it cleared up and I got bamboo wig liners during chemo as my head would get hot and irritated. There is a website livebetterwithcancer they have some products that may help you. hope you feel better and get some relief soon, Clare
I really sympathise because I am suffering from a horrendous itch too. It's so difficult not to scratch yourself raw, isn't it? My oncologist gave me 3 creams: one to hydrate, another is an antibiotic cream and a third is steroid cream. I'm also taking an antihistamine tablet but after 5 days it still hasn't completely stopped. Perhaps I've been too sparing with the steroid cream.
I'm pretty sure the itch is caused by some pills I'm taking on a clinical trial as I finished weekly Taxol nearly 2 months ago. The pills might be preventing disease progression so I'm trying to persevere. As is said so often, we are all different but I hope you get some creams sorted, then just slap it on! Good luck, Gina x
I've no helpful advice I'm afraid but wanted to wish u speedy recovery from it and get some relief... poor thing this disease is bad enough without all these curveballs they throw at us....best of luck hun xx
