Well started my 2nd line chemo today,Carbo only.Thank Goodness I'm on the road again as mentally I had the cancer growing out of control in my body, stupid but true. Now I guess let the side effects begin! The way I look at it,pains, nausea, sore gums etc,to me means the chemo is kicking A$s and I've been given steroids and a to nausea mess so hopefully that will work.
Wiped! Carbo day.: Well started my 2nd line chemo... - My Ovacome
Wiped! Carbo day.
Just realised one of the side effects must be,incorrect spelling, bad grammar and not paying attention to what I am typing! Ha ha
Hi Concerned,Carbo is short for Carboplatin, which is a chemo drug.Your not being ignorant at all,if you don't ask,you won't know.
Thanks Claire, hope you will feel better tomorrow, you can't beat a bit of JEREMY KYLE HA HA.
Hi Claire, I am glad you are feeling a bit better today, as I said the first one does hit you hard where it hurts most. Then you have the feeling of cabin fever due to being not well enough to get out. Well I do hope you are over the worst and try to get out for a few minutes walk if you are able, anything to help the monotony.
Hi Annie, well its a start so one over and less to go. I hope they gave you plenty of anti sick. Motillium just does not work ever for me when on treatment and when I say it, they look at me foolishly. So Annie speak up and have all your side effects ready for your next visit. Yes my gp said if you get side effects it means the meds are working so that applies to chemo as well. I imagine they are very busy as usual . I miss my Avastin this Thurs as have to visit day hospital for scope. There was no way out and the new Onc Reg wasnt having any arguements about it. Normally I am the church mouse but for some reason because the clinic was moved to the Oncology Unit, I was more at home so spoke up. All was repeated to the prof and he was looking at me foolishly on the way out. I think I should now be conferred with an honoury medical degree at this stage. I hope you wont be too sick, dry crackers, bovril ginger biscuits etc and peppermint tea and mints help the nausea. Wishing you all the best and hope you will be able to attend the next coffee morning in September in the Clarion again
Hi Suzuki, they gave me anti nausea prescription today for Valoid, plus steroids for two days.It must be a new thing as I didn't get steroids to take after the Carbo/taxol the last time,I had to take them before.Another new thing I noticed today, the prof now mentions not to drink Green Tea or take wheatgrass while on chemo as its a strong antioxidant and it would affect the Carbo.I was worried then as I eat blueberries, strawberries, beetroot etc and they're all antioxidants also.I was told I can still eat those but to a lesser extent.
I haven't met the reg yet and won't be seeing the prof again until 2nd of October.Seeing gyneoncologist Friday. The nurse didn't know about my treatment plan today until I told her.She thought it was the usual 6 cycles with scan after but when I told her it was only 3 cycles with Parp Inhibator she said"I didn't know the prof was doing trials here again!
I don't envy your next few days.Add some black current to your powders it hopefully should go down easier. You will be able to relax the weekend when it's all over with. You have done great things with your life in the last 2 yrs.You have become proactive, learnt how to and when to speak your mind. You have been a great support to all of us women on here. The important thing now is,not what would I want, like and need to make me happier and this illness easier to manage,it should be,what do I need to get rid of in my life to make me happier, that is one of the most difficult questions we have to ask ourselves.
If I'm off the radar for a few days,I will be still thinking of you on Friday and praying on good results.Sorry for long reply, I had steroids today,so am a little high ha ha .
Yes Annie you were up later than me, that is a good idea to add something to the drink. You know you are perfectly right, we do need to drop all negative people even negative friends. I have done a bit of shedding this summer well to one or two who upset me, One is a neighbour which hubby isnt too happy about but I felt I was at her beck and call all the time when it suited her. So I have withdrawn. The other thing was the choir, I just felt there was too much politics involved. The choir conductor was pushed out and another put in. Now in reality the choir is supposed to be stress free. I have nothing against the new choir leader, I preferred the other guy nothing to do with the fact he is young and handsome haha. Things change I suppose but I feel if I stay I am only condoning that carry on and I dont have time for it in my life. Hopefully if I have the energy and health I will do something else in the Autumn. I havent done a lot this summer just chilled but then my body probably needed to chill. I hope the steroids and valoid work and that you dont have many sick days. I didnt know they were doing parp inhibitors here either, well that is indeed encouraging. I did hear the gynae liason nurse was on hols the past few weeks so maybe she is not up to speed yet. I did hear someone mention at the last coffee morning that Avastin supply was much reduced. On the other hand, a friend with chronic leukeamia started a similar targeted therapy in the Summer but in tablet form. She attends Tallaght Hosp. She is responding well and is encouraged that I did okay on it. She was running out of options and stem cell transplant is not for her as the condition is familial. Thinking of you and hoping you wont feel too unwell best wishes Joan
Hi AnnieH I just want say that lots of prayers coming your way for a successful and trouble free treatment schedule. You are so helpful and encouraging to so many people including long winded old me ! By the way chemo definitely has not in any way damaged your sense of humour. Keep on smiling

Hi I started second line carbo only 2 weeks ago today and to be honest I think I've been extremely lucky as I haven't had any side effects as such to it at all! I had carbo only last time too and was exactly the same would hardly know I was having it. I take the steroids for 2 days after like they say and then nothing as completely fine. I hope others have my experience as it makes it so much easier to cope with. I actually assumed most people have not many side effects with carbo only but having read this site I have gathered this is not the case.
All the best to you
