After coping really well with half my chemo treatment I have ended up in hospital as neutropenic and a nasty urine infection. Just started 4th round out of 6 and am so disappointed that I may have to delay things now. Just wanted to get it over and done with. Has this happened to anyone else - how long did it take to get back on track again?

I had a nasty chest infection which required hospitalisation . My bloods recovered pretty quickly and I only got delayed by one week. I then had daily filgrastin injections for 5 days after chemo.
All delays are so disappointing though aren't they.
Wishing you well soon.

I was admitted with an infection the week before my final chemo session but after a couple of days in hospital having iv antibiotics and a couple of pints of blood the final chemo session only ended up being delayed by a week.
Hope you feel better soon

Like 'Littlesan' I had a similar injection (GCSF, I think?) to boost white cell production in order to prevent neutropenia so I could go to our son's wedding. So, know these injections, even though can give discomfort (my bones ached!), do work.
In my second lot of chem, which was dose-dense chemo of carboplatin & taxol again but on a weekly basis plus Avastin on fortnightly basis, I took a complimentary medicine, Elagen (with permission of both the oncologist and surgeon) which kept my white cell count higher than usual - even the chemo nurses commented. Am now two years post this last lot of chemo and still take just one tablet most days, two if I'm really tired or have forgotten!
I buy Elagen from:-
elagen.com/shop/elagen/elag...
It claims it "may" help immune systems and the only scientific data is on its effectiveness in reducing cold sores.
Take care and hang on in there, balancing the distress with anything lovely in your life.

I had a urine infection while on weekly Taxol, spent 3 days in hospital, & missed 1 session of chemo altogether.

Thank you for your replies everyone. Out of hospital and white blood cells went up by themselves. Now just drinking ridiculous amounts of water to make sure it doesn't happen again!!!
