Sore Scalp

I started weekly taxol three weeks ago and I had my third treatment on Monday morning. My scalp has become sore so assume this means my hair will start to fall out soon. I was just wondering if there is anything I should do in the meantime?

Hi,

I had weekly taxol for 18 weeks, I used the cold cap, and didnt lose all my hair, it thinned a bit but with a little clip in hair piece no one could tell, it grew back really quickly as well, I washed it in cool water with baby shampoo and conditioner, and dried it with a cold hairdryer. Its worth a try.

Wishing you well with your treatment

Take Care

Thanks for the reply I didn't fancy the cold cap and not sure if its available where I go for treatment as its a small unit. Some of my hair has started to come out its so thick its not really noticeable so I am going to shave it

HI, I tried the cold cap, but it was not for me. Had weekly Taxol on 2nd occurrence of OC and hair was a little slow initially to fall out - but it was only when I would touch or comb it, that it came away.

Ask you usual hairdresser to do it, as our scalps are not used to shavers and then go out and have a little treat. Bring your make up with you - if you use cosmetics - and freshen up your face to suit, and then go out and GLOW.

I used Johnsons baby shampoo on my scalp but any gentle shampoo is good.

Good Luck and best wishes for successful treatment.

Regards, Daisies xxx

I have already shaved it. I tend to use natural shampoos anyway and I am too lazy to wear make up

Hi, if you're going to shave, go no lower than a number 2. You don't want to risk infection if you nick your scalp! My head tingled all over and felt sore. As I have thick hair too it was the day of my second chemo that I decided to have it shaved off, as it had started in the couple of days before to come out quicker. Be prepared for the stranger looking back at you in the mirror! All the best. Ann xo

Hi,

Thanks for the advice I did mean to only shave it to number two but ended up with number one but fortunatley no nicks.

Hi I remember when mine first started coming out found it upsetting hair all on clothes pillows etc so got my daughter shave mine and apart from a little upset on day I had it done found it less stressful than sitting day after day with hairs everywhere x

When i got my wig the hairdresser told me my head was sore because the follicles were letting go of the hair. I have just had a No.4 having started to lose my hair for the third time. Not that keen on new wig it doesn't seem to fit as good as old one - keeps riding up at the back. Anyone else had this problem? Going to look for another one...

I haven't made my mind up about a wig

I had taxol last year, I didn't have a sore head but a tingling one. I also had it shaved. It was coming away in clumps anyway. When it started to grow I used baby shampoo.

This time round different chemo so it only thinned

Good call on shaving it. Otherwise it ends up everywhere and I mean everywhere! Thought I would hate going out without a wig but actually love the sensation of wind on my scalp. Only bit I hate is no eyebrows but lots of fun to be had painting them on and ending up with one higher, darker, wider than the other. Xx

My eye brows haven't started sheading yet. A few eye lashes have come out but not so you would notice
