Hi Ladies, My Mum has had her first session with this drug, it’s not going well and I think she’ll be changing drugs again, but in the meantime she is telling me her hair has been falling out a bit, and that she is experiencing no headache but scalp ache particularly when lying down at night. Anyone any advice to help alleviate this pain at all?

Caelyx side effect advice on scalp ache
My scalp ached whilst on Caelyx, I didn't loose my hair but it did thin on top quite of a lot, I believe it was this that was causing the scalp sensitivity. It didn't last long a few weeks I think. You can buy night caps for hair loss that might help. Good Luck x
Hi Lyn, I’m starting caelyx soon with carboplatin, did you have carboplatin too! I’m not sure how often I’ve got to have it yet! I was on niraparib but it stopped working so I’ve got to have 6 cycles! Happy days! To be honest I just want to get started and attack this little demon 😊
When my scalp was sore due to hair loss I washed it with Aqueous Cream and it helped a lot, you can also wash with it and use it as a moisturiser. Best place to get it is Superdrug, it's very good and useful stuff. Hope that helps. Sue xx
Baby shampoo could also help. Sue xx
I didn't have scalp problems but I felt very nauseous after my first Caelyx. My oncologist lowered the dose for me and after that it was tolerable. It might be worth asking if that's an option?
Is it too late to ask to have the cold cap? This was suggested to me whilst on Caelyx. No problems at all with hair loss or scalp.xx
Hi Mrs Tadpole whilst on Caelyx what other drug was you taking with it? I will be taking carboplatin with mine! I was lead to believe that I would just have hair thinning! And wouldn’t need the cold cap.I know any drug with taxel/taxol causes hair loss but I though this would be friendlier!!
I’m getting really worried now as to whether I should have the cold cap!
Thank you xx
Hi Lesinbeds
I was only given Caelyx but it was suggested by a nurse that I have the cold cap to stop any hair loss. When I was first diagnosed the chemo was rushed through and I didn't know anything about a cold cap. Hence I lost all my hair whilst on Carbo/taxol.
After Caelyx I was given Olaparib, a PARP inhibitor last June and have been on it ever since. Thankfully it is working really well for me. I am BRCA 2 positive though. Hope you can get it sorted xx
My hair has thinned a lot on top with caelyx, grumps me a bit as I have always had very thick hair, now I look a bit like Friar Tuck. Scalp was a bit tender at first but thats gone
