My daughter Jaci suffered from OC, eventually she had colostomy and we were advised she would be in ITU for 3 days, however we had phone call 12 hrs later to say she had been moved to acute stroke unit due to emergencies in ITU. She then got infection and passed away. We were at the mercy of bed managers. I feel cheated, what do you think? Gillx

Jaci. I really can't say much to console you and your family. Hospital bed management is dreadful when it results in such an ending.

But my thoughts and prayers are sent to you.

I'm sorry to read this and understand your comments, investigating blame is important I would definitely ask for an investigation.

As for your loss, having lost my son I totally understand your pain.

My itu run a follow up service as often we can answer lots of questions for families at awful times like these about those early post op phases and what happened that lead to such a sad outcome so ask to see them and hopefully they can help you with that bit. I'm so sorry that you have lost your daughter and obviously and rightly want to know why - the hospital should have a PALS service or at the least information on how to contact their complaints department so that you can ask questions - major surgery does have potential for major complications and sadly stroke is one of those, reference bed management and infection I can't comment on your daughters case without details but I always feel sad when families are left wondering at such sad times. You are in my thoughts and I truly hope you don't have to wonder for long xxxx

Hi Gill

So sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you are going through. I hope you get some answers to your questions. As Madz says contact PALS - I found them helpful when I had issues with a hospital.

My sincere condolences

I am so sorry to hear this. Please accept my sincere condolences. I suppose you are wondering if Jaci would have contracted the infection had she remained in the ITU, and I imagine that is near impossible to answer. Unfortunately Bed Managers have the awful task of finding a suitable bed for patients and this isn't always easy. I understand that it is the clinical staff and not the Bed Manager who would have made the decision as to which patient in the ITU was most suitable to move out In order to deal with the emergency.

If only our hospitals were properly funded and all beds open instead of the continual gnawing away that goes on.

Please ensure you ask for a full report on your daughter's care. My heart goes out to you. Take care. Ann xo

I am sincerely sorry at the loss of your daughter. I do realise there must be a lot of questions you need answered. Do ring and make an appointment to meet with her medical team and get those questions answered when you feel able to cope with that. Sending you kind thoughts and prayers
