Has anyone previously had this chemo. If so how did you find and cope with side effects. Also did it help shrink the cancer.
I had 1 shot on 5th round of 2nd line chemo. I ended up in bed for 8 days very ill. Recoverd now. But that was so awful. I cry just thinking about going through that again.

Ok.. Sandra had cisplatin as part of her rotterdam regimen which includes the etoposide tablet. She never took the etoposide but endured cisplatin each week for 6 weeks. It was infused over 13 hrs to allow plenty of saline flushes to the kidneys. Cisplatin is 4x stronger than carboplatin but is rarely used as oncologists balance quality of life with side effects.. All I will say is that Sandra had her best remission period of 12 mths and her lowest CA125 reading of 8 because of cisplatin. Like everything, everyone reacts differant to regimens so some will get a good response, others less so. Xx Paul
Hi there. I'm sorry as I have no experience of this drug but you seem to be having it pretty rough. I can relate to how you are feeling though as I was like this after my second round of carbo/taxol. The side effects were even stronger than my first dose and I ended up in bed, sobbing that I'd rather be feazd than go through this again. I had very bad bone pain and another horrendous mouth ulcer and just felt so awful. We contacted the 24hr helpline at the o cvology unit a and they advised me what to get from the pharmacy, we which helped me ride the storm. Be sure to tell your oncologist as they may be able to reduce the dose for your next one. My dose was red I c E d and I coped much better with treatment no 3. Keep fighting. We are all with you. Big hugs coming yourvwasy. Ann Xo.
Ive had cisplatin twice, both times it flattened me. Is is harder to cope with than carbo but both time it put me back into remission 'no evidence of disease' , my husband doesnt want me to have it again but to be honest both times the tumour disappeared by the third dose. I wish u well. Its tough but within 6 weeks of finishing I was back at work full time xx
Hi Marian, I'm so sorry you had a nasty episode with cisplatin. I had it earlier this year for recurrence of PPC and whilst it was a bit harsh (!) I'm doing absolutely fine and relishing every day. I had carbo/ taxol for first line, followed by 12 months remission. I would certainly let your oncologist know about your experiences. As has already been said, I hope it does the job and we are all with you xx
I had cisplatin 3 years ago after reacting to carboplatin, and it is a much harsher drug than carboplatin, which was no problem to me. But it is worth the effort if you stick with it - will give good results usually, like carboplatin. I was in remission for 3 years after that. Just relapsed, and am on cisplatin again, this time with caelyx rather than taxol. Just had first dose yesterday. Yes, discuss the side effects with your consultant, and maybe the dose can be cut slightly. But persevere with it if you can is my advice.
