Could it be back??

I was diagnosed with 1C in October 12, had a hysterectomy and 6 sessions of carboplatin. I've since had regular 3month checks with normal Ca125 readings. However over the last 2 weeks I have felt bloated and uncomfortable and my stomach is very tender. My husband said that I am worrying unnecessarily as I would not have similar symptoms to my original ones as it could not return as before due to having had surgery does anyone know if this is the case ????

Dear Kizzybelle,

I don't think you are over reacting.

The advice given for recurrence is if you have symptoms for at least three weeks....

so if you still feel bloated in the next week or so it would be worth getting it checked out, there is no harm in giving your CNS a ring to put your mind at rest or ring the Ovacome helpline tel 0845 371 0554 tomorrow they are very good at giving advice.

Best wishes love x G x

Hello. You may be worrying unnecessarily but it is best to get yourself checked out.

You don't say when your next check up is. If it's soon then wait and see your oncologist then. If not call your CNS and get appointment brought forward. It may be nothing but it will help you to stop worrying. Let's know how you get on. izzy xx

Hi, I agree with the others ....best to contact your CNS to have your next appointment brought forward if symptoms persist. Or if your CA125 has always been a good marker for you to ask your GP for a CA125 test.

I think your husband is being kind and trying to alleviate your fears saying that recurrence symptoms wouldn't present as your original ones. You know your body best and know when something isn't quite right.

Take care and let us know how to do.

All the best xx

Dear Kizzybelle

I don't think you are overreacting either.......and so what if you are, better to be checked out. Good advice already given to you on here, so I will just add my very best wishes and please, let us know how it goes. Sue x

Dear Kizzybelle

I think you're being very wise keeping an eye out for symptoms even though you would have the hope of a complete cure and that is what I hope for you too.

Recurrence would bring with it the original symptoms such as bloating so it's worth checking this up. If I were in your situation I'd be ringing the CNS, or the consultant's secretary to book an appointment if your next 3 month check is some way away.

Please let us know how you get on. I do hope it's nothing to worry about. I read on the Ovarian Cancer Action website that symptoms are persistent if they occur more than 12 times a month. Ovacome and Target Ovarian Cancer have excellent symptoms trackers on their website that you can print out and complete before seeing a doctor. This might be helpful for you.

Thanks everyone - I think Im trying to convince myself it's fine because I can't face hearing anything wrong, but I know I need to have it checked. I have now got an appt with my gyn/onc on 10th March and I have everything crossed !!!!

I had exactly these symptoms last week and convinced myself it was a Bad Sign (I had surgery in December and no further treatment for now). I got terribly upset and anxious.

I booked an appointment to see my GP but decided to try something for irritable bowel in the meantime -- and it worked a treat! I was painfree and the bloating had gone without 36 hours!

I bought some Colpermin capsules. You might want to try the same. I'm not suggesting this as an alternative to seeing your doctor, I think you should still keep your appointment (I'm still going to see my doc, this afternoon as it happens); but if something like this works for you, you will feel so much better; and if it doesn't work, you can tell them so and avoid wasting any further time if your doc suggests that you try something like that!!

They won't mask symptoms of anything more sinister so you won't cause any harm by trying. The other thing is - 10 March is still quite some way away if you're in discomfort and worried - how about checking with your GP before then?

I would say ring your specialist nurse for a chat.

I had the same as you at the same time but with one session of carbo, I had similar symptoms not that long ago, due to see consultant on March 28th, however my GP has said that feeling bloated is a common symptom of menopause and hormone fluctuation, and I have to admit mine has gone away. My body seems to think I'm still on a monthly cycle as I still have 'bitch week' I'd definitely not worry.

Hi Kizzybelle, I have had the same symptoms and convinced myself it had come back, CT scan showed all was OK. Hope this stops you worrying while you wait to get checked out. Lots of love xxx

Im the same, worry for each time I get indigestion or pains in my hips,I didnt need chemo guess its a good thing we are aware of the symptoms and will be listened to by the best people going to look after us. Its normal to feel concerned and I am realising I need to now learn how I am going to cope with this for the next 5 years of checks. Its all new to us isn't it xxxx

Hi everyone, just a quick update. I had an appointment with my gynecology/oncologist. My CA125 is still at 8. Doctor examined me and arranged for me to have an ultra sound scan. Nothing obvious is showing. She basically told me to stop worrying and 'let the cancer go'. I must admit I felt a little patronized. I am not imagining the bloating or discomfort in my stomach but when I suggested a CT scan she said it wasn't necessary, it's all so very unsettling !!

Hi Kizzybelle,

I wonder if your doctor would let it go if it was her. I can quite understand you feeling patronized... I feel really mad about that... sending you my love and best wishes X G X

Hi Kikkybelle

The good thing is that she hasn't found anything obvious....but what an insensitive thing to say. I have just read your past posts and you have had a terrible time, poor thing. I also had on going problems and my consultant says equally upsetting and patronising things.

Our hospital now does patient led follow up, which I have now and it is so much better, but not entirely risk free. Perhaps in a while you could consider this.

Best wishes and big hugs xxx
