Hi Ladies hope ye are all well as possible. I need some urgent replies as I think I must have the most impossible oncologist to deal with .
I had frontline chemotherapy which ended in April 2018 I was on avastin for maintenance, my Ca125 started to rise and I had a ct scan in September that showed disease progression I went back to the oncologist and, he said I was platinum resistant while I know this is technically the issue I went to a private hospital and offered cisplatin to see would I have a response the private hospital is a 5 hour round trip to my home I have 3 small kids so asked could I have it local and this was refused. Could anyone let me know their platinum drug responses or bad reactions if any or got a second platinum drug in a close time and if it worked or not. Thanks in advance, XX Clare

As far as I know from my own oncologist if I had reoccurred within 6 mths I could not have had any platinum drugs as I would have been resistant as has had carbo taxol first time. I had reoccurrence just 7 months after chemo finished. They gave me cisto/gem the second time. Your now nearly 6 months after 1st chemo so do you think he will consider it now? Not sure if this helpful but would a 2nd opinion in Limerick be any help. You need to be confident that your oncologist is doing everything in your interest. How did you get on in Dublin. Did you get to find out about immunotherapy? Antoinette
Hi Antoinette I did find out about the immunotherapy and it is avaialble at a course cost of €50,000 but the consultant said he needs to check if I have the PDL 1 receptor and I am hoping to do the oncofocus test in Dublin also. Thanks for letting me know because this was never made known to me. its looking like I will have to get the treatment in Dublin its just so far away from home and i have a young family
Omg that’s steep. Did here from my onc that it was about €7,000 per week but is it not covered by health insurance? Also just check has there been any successful trials with it for ovarian cancer. That’s something my oncologist also mentioned back in February. Keep in touch and fingers crossed for you to get the treatment you need.
There were trials for melanoma and they have that trial in Cork. But its not a gynae hospital. It is a public Hospital and private as well. I don't know if you could join the trial. I think perhaps an opinion up in Cork with Prof O Reilly could be an option. He is nice, kind and has a level playing field.
Yes you are correct and he is my Oncologist but you have my permission to visit him. a joke of course. I don't know what I would do without him, ask your gp for a referral, he also has a private practice.
Hi Claire xx So sorry to hear this treatment of you and your health. I am currently on my 3rd reoccurrance of OC and 4 chemos tthrough my treatment of Carboplatinum and my markers seemto be coming down with each 3 weekly cycle plus I have an anazing Onc so it does help. Its a bit rough the chemo but 2 more to go. Has your Onc suggested Carboplatin?
Thanks for your reply I had Carbo/taxol the first time around so I think they feel that definitely won't work, thats great your markers came down did you ever have a recurrence within 6 months of using carboplatin, Thanks Clare
How are you getting on at this stage? I’m from Ireland too. I’m nearly finished 2nd line of Carbo, Gem & Avastin. I am hoping to get Olaparib afterwards and assuming that it’ll be free!
Hi yes its free for BRCA positive and platinum sensitive, I am on it for the past 7 weeks feel bloated so hoping its not fluid I am back Friday for a check up.I hope you can get a chance on it -it sounds like you could you are just finishing carboplatin I am platinum sensitive. It is easier than chemo I am on 16 tablets a day of olaparib (2 doses of 8) best wishes xx
