High grade 3c on 1st recurrence after 1st line taxol/carboplatin.

Been given tamoxifen sor 12 weeks then will have to scan before I see oncologist 14 August. I believe tamoxifen is still experimental with ovarian cancer any ladies on tamoxifen. X

Tamoxifen would not be experimental with an ovarian cancer that is supported by oestrogen, as tamoxifen works by blocking oestrogen.

There are lots of different types of ovarian cancer, depending on where it starts.

The most common type of OC comes from the epithelium, or outer lining of the ovary (and peritoneum). This type of OC is unlikely to be dependent on oestrogen, and tamoxifen might be considered experimental in this situation.

Stromal OC starts in the body of the ovary and might be dependent on oestrogen, which is why tamoxifen can be a non-experimental treatment option.

Hope this helps you formulate the questions you would want your oncologist to answer.

And, good luck with the treatment!

Really appreciate your reply thank you. Fingers crossed eh. Bit of a mine field isn't it as each treatment is different for each lady and different outcomes. I see the disease as a garden of weeds and it's getting the treatment to keep them at bay. Daft but we all think different things to cope. Thinking of maybe a clinical trial if one available.

Thank you for your response it's nice to know people care. Good luck with your journey and what a journey eh! I feel I am treading water at moment since recurrence 19th May it gets exhausting mentally and physically. Determined not to drown not yet for a long time yet. Hopefully I will be thrown a lifeline if tamoxifen does not stabilise tumours. Resigned to another chemo.
