I guess those 4 years of prednisone in my late teens and twenties did a number.. or my dairy-free lifestyle (allergic since birth) not to mention 20 years of no beef/ pork ... so now what?

The best way to build bone strength is to do high impact exercise and progressive weight/resistance training. Apart from that, it's also important to have a healthy diet, plenty of protein and make sure your calcium intake is good, and ideally your blood D level should be at least 30ng/ml (75nmol/litre UK measurement), preferably 40ng/ml (100nmol/litre). Vitamin K2 (either K2-MK7 or K2-MK4) helps direct calcium to the bones (hard to get enough in the diet unless you eat lots of natto), and many people also take a magnesium supplement and boron.
I have heard great results from friends who took Algecal and used a vibration platform with excellent results. I have used many types of calcium for 20 yrs with D3, recently Boneup. Algecal is backorder, but will switch when it comes in.
Yes it is the prednisone!! They put me on it at 25 and throughtout the years and at age 51 got severe osteoporosis induced by the prednisone -3.2 in my spine. I've had 5 compression fractures and 1 rib. I've lost 5 inches in height. My lungs and organs are compressed. I can't get out of bed by myself or barely walk. My hips are a -3.7 and I had 1 hip replacement and I will need another one. My life is a torture fest everyday. In horrinle pain and can barely sleep and have panic attacks thinking how can I get through another day due to my Drs negligence and big pharma and the destruction prednisone cause and the 90 lb weight gain. Dont anyone ever take prednisone Its poison!!!! Its destroyed my life!! I hope you don't get a fracture but if you do take tymlos. Hsve your Dr fight for you to get it. Can only get it with a fracture. It did reverse my osteoporosis to osteopenis but they gave ut to me too late. Should gave given it to me after my first break!!! I'm so depressed and can't live a normal life and so scared of my future.
I was diagnosed in July 2019 at age 50 w/ osteoporosis. My lumbar spine t-score was -3.9. I have no fragility fractures. I joined a gym in January 2022 (as soon as things reopened after the COVID shutdowns) and I can now leg press 410 lbs. Oh, and I’m 4’11” and weigh 107 lbs.
Sharing this to make you feel better about your t-scores. I would love to have a -2.5 t-score
Also, DEXAs aren’t 100% accurate. There’s a real chance that your lumbar t-score is slightly better than your DEXA shows which would mean you are in the osteopenia range.
