I saw my doctor the other day to discuss the results from my DEXA scan. I am listed as being in the severe case since both my spine and hips are 3 in the scale of the test. She mentioned the treatment options but I refuse to try any of them since one can never be stopped once started, one can interfere with needed dental work and others have side effects I do not want. Unfortunately because of numerous food allergies I cannot get the needed vitamins and minerals so I am researching supplements and so far I have added K2 and magnesium to my daily supplements. I have also read that weight bearing exercises, yoga, walking are helpful. Currently I am reading a few different books on the subject and will also go to a doctor that specializes in bio identical treatments and natural cures. Unfortunately in this country (USA) the doctors are drug pushers for the largest drug lord in the world (big pharma). From my research I also learned that I am in the high risk of being a candidate for osteoporosis since I am white, slim build, early menopause, and take synthroid. I am praying that God will heal me and direct me to the right doctor and treatment options. Whatever your decision is on your treatment options, please research all options, when I mentioned I started taking K2 my doctor said “whats that? Is it a supplement?” This is a new doctor I recently started seeing and I can tell I will need to find another one since she doesn’t know her vitamins . 🙄
Have a great God Blessed day everyone and. I pray you find the options that work for you in your treatment plan.

Hi there, I am a 70 years old lady and I have severe osteoporosis as well.( -3.9 in my hip and -3.5 in my spine)For medical reasons I cannot take those medicines for osteoporosis that you have been mentioning about . I have serious side effects with most medications because of a defective enzyme. I do not have an answer for you nor for myself, except that keep doing exercises, taking. Vitamine k2 like you are doing and various minerals. Unfortunately there are things we can’t change and you know what? I worry so much for osteoporosis and maybe tomorrow I will be hit by a car and die or I will get some other serious disease. That is to say that we have to do our best with what we have and put things into perspective. There are people dealing with cancer and I would not want to exchange osteoporosis with that. I am not going and I can’t take these medicines and I have made peace with that. There is nothing I can do about it. Live your life the best way you can. Hope this helps. Take care
Thank you. I am 62 and I will not take any big pharma meds for this, exercise and vitamins are my choice of options. Trying to find a health care provider that is informative about osteoporosis and has more natural options will be the tough part.
That is exactly how I feel Stellina14. I spent four progressively more and more miserable months taking alendronic acid from January 2020 and finally decided I would absolutely hate to persist while feeling as bad as I did (the only side effect I didn’t have was my gut which was the one I was most concerned about)
I used to say to my husband I would be really furious if I’d suffered like I was doing with the meds and then been hit by a bus or something similar or even died of something else.
So I stopped taking them within a few weeks I was back to feeling like myself again. I concentrate on exercise, diet and vitamins and minerals.
Thank you for understanding my point of you. You know, if I could tolerate these medications, I would give it a try, but I know for past experience with meds. that I can't. I have 14.2 % chance of getting a spontaneous fracture within the next 10 years. When I was told that a while ago, I did not take it very well of course and it took me a while to digest the diagnose. My osteoporosis significantly increased in my hip and spine(less so) in over 3 years time. Like I said, I was kind of shocked at first, but then I thought that anything could happen to me in the next years, months, days. Please let me know if you have heard of vitamin K2 and if so, what you think about that. I hope that we can make it through in one piece...... Take care
I have bone broth (beef and chicken) it's now being seen as a superfood, good for bone strength. Cut out refined carbs and sugars as much as is possible for you. My spine score was 3.9 in 2019 and it's now 3.2. 🙏 All glory to God. 🙂
I'm in the UK so I order from an organic farm that delivers frozen next day, they also sell the bones so you can make it yourself which would work out much cheaper. I'm sure there must be something similar in the US. I haven't got around to making it myself yet.
how often do you drink the bone broth and what else have you done to reduce your scores? My scores are like you and I'm worried for my bones and my doctor is pushing hard to start meds.
We all deal with this the best way we can (although at the moment I “only” have osteopaenia and I try to be rigorous with my diet, supplement and exercise lifestyle to keep it advancing further 🤞). I have had a warning shot so to speak in that I broke my hip at 63 but that was not classed as a fragility fracture.
Just to say that vitamin k2 is not all that well recognised within the general medical community, at least here in the UK, maybe your dr is willing to be educated? One other supplement that many in this community adds is boron. One of the favourite places to obtain it is by eating prunes (dried plums) but that means 10-12 a day which is pretty high on the sugar content. A boron supplement is quite cheap and I personally take 3mg a day, plus a couple of prunes in yoghurt fairly regularly but do research this for yourself if it interests you. Best wishes.
