Low Calcium levels

Hi, I have had three lots of blood tests now all with low Calcium in the blood. I’m not sure what it means as I haven’t seen a consultant yet. I’m a 54 year old male, anyone got any ideas? I’m told that they checked my parathyroid glands and that they were normal. Confused?

Lack of calcium means weak bone, pain in teeth, pain in the body, ur hair will be brittle but it's not a critical case it just normal when person try to weight loss they start avoiding milk products because they think that milk will increase their weight but it's 100 percent wrong thinking if u avoid milk ur Body will show that symptoms. So for avoiding these symptoms u must drink a glass of milk every day.

And consult with a doctor.

Sometimes all you need to do is increase your Vitamin D intake to increase your calcium level, as Vitamin D plays an important role in calcium absorption. However, usually blood calcium levels are maintained by the body within quite a narrow range (which would mean that if your calcium intake isn't high enough, it gets depleted from your bones). Were you told what your D level is?

No I was told my vitamin D was ok. I’ve been taking vitamin D supplements every day for a couple of years now. I also eat lots of dairy product’s. I’m Vegetarian but eat a very healthy diet that includes yogurt, cheese and milk every day.

It doesn't sound like it's due to low Vitamin D, but increasing your supplementation may (no guarantees of course) help to also raise your blood calcium, depending what the underlying cause is. Are you taking an osteoporosis medication? A number of those can also lower blood calcium levels, usually only temporarily but sometimes longer term.

I’m not taking osteoporosis medication but I am taking heart medication due to an MI in 2017.

In that case I would ask your doctor whether the heart meds could be preventing calcium absorption, and if so, whether that's of any concern.

So I have osteopenia which is low calcium. Found on bone density test. Shortly without getting technical I will be official termed osteoporosis as defined by WHO. Saw rheumatologist. So , make 70. There are meds biphosphonates if I remember ( look up) but they did not want to use those as I had gastric ulcer in 50’s They advised the combination vitamin SLO-Cal- has a good absorbable calcium (calcium carbonate & calcium citrate) 1,200 mg,vitamin D as cholecalciferol ( preferred) & some Magnesium 80 mg as( magnesium hydroxide) . So blood tests, maybe a bone mass density ( I am not a Dr) but had these tests done. Try and exercise. You are still young.I wish you the best
