I’m such a worrier I know but I have been told I have gastritis and I’m constantly having different symptoms that come and go. The latest one, a warm sensation at the top of my stomach from the inside. Almost like there’s a hot water bottle in there. I know this sounds odd but it’s the only way I can describe it. Is this similar to anyone else’s gastritis / acid sensations? Thanks

Hi Kimbad, is this warm feeling at the top of your stomach after you've eaten a large meal especially one with heavy protein or is it on an empty stomach? Do you know what type of Gastritis you've been diagnosed with? There really are two major types one is H-Pylori caused gastritis mostly in the gastric antrum or lower part of stomach. This is about 98% of Gastritis seen by doctors or GPs. Then there is Autoimmune Gastritis (AIG) that affects primarily the upper 1/3 of your stomach. This is about 1.5% of gastritisis (haha is that a word gastritisis?) anyway much rarer. Then there is alcohol or smoking related Gastritis. It's important to know which type you have in order to understand symptoms and how best to treat. With AIG your immune system attacks the acid producing parietal cells in your stomach so as the disease progresses you may have less and less stomach acid. At some point when your acid is real low then quite possible as you eat a heavy meal there was not enough acid pool (gastric juice) for your food to fall into. As you eat more your parietal cells will keep pumping trying to keep up as your gastric pH is dropping. Thus your gastric acid can pool on top of your food bolus causing this warm feeling at the top of your stomach and can even cause acid reflux. This is from my own experience as I progressed from low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria) to now zero stomach acid (achlorhydria)
