Famotidine

Hi, I'm new on here. Has anyone been taking Famotidine on a long term badis? My GP has put me on it and I am worried about long term side effects of this medication

Hi, I have been on and off Famotidine for several years. As far as I am aware, there are no long term side effects. They are safer than long term PPI's, which unfortunately I have been on for many years as these work better for me than Famotidine. So if the Famotidine controls your symptoms, that's good news. Thank you for your reply. This sounds reassuring. I have asked my GP to stop my Lansoprazole, as I have learned that it thins the bones, and I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I was taking Lansoprazole for over four years.

Hi similar to other responder, this time around I’ve been on it for almost 2 years non stop, with no ill effects, sometimes with PPIs too. It’s a lot safer than PPIs so if it controls your symptoms you should be fine. It’s been around a long time. Here in Australia it’s a bit hit and miss when you can get it though, my gastro said some of her patients can’t get it which is worrying 🙄

Thank you for your reply. I did read somewhere on Google that it can cause liver damage, if taken long term and this has me worried 😕
