Hi
Has anyone been using Famitodine long term without any issues. I am reluctant to use PPIs as I have osteoporosis and also hypothyroidism.
Yes I use Famitodine been using for nearly a year no problems.I have osteoporosis and several other issues. No problem with the meds. Regards sandy.
I am also hypothyroid and take levothyroxine. I also have a bit of osteoporosis. I've taken Famododine and there's been no problem. To be honest you're far better taking something for your reflux than worrying, because stomach acid can be harmful.
Thanks Angela. Have you been taking Famitidine for long? Did you find that you find it affected the levo absorption when you started to take it.
HelloI've been taking PPIs for a long time now. I've recently also had an esophageal pH test. I was switched to famitidine for a while and found it had no detrimental effects on anything. However I have to say that for me famitidine didn't help my reflux.
Many thanks Angela. I understand that H2 antagonist like Famitidine are less likely to cause osteoporosis than ppis so I would prefer to stick with them if I canas long as they continue to work. I try to control my reflux with a bland diet but it doesn't always work unfortunately.
Hello again Eton,
Well, my ph test was a 24 hour one and showed no abnormal motility in the esophagus' so thankfully my swallowing is normal. However it did show that my esophageal sphincter is lax and that's what's letting the acid through. I have a hernia and that wasn't even mentioned. But I have heard that people, like yourself, have had the test and it shows no abnormalities. This a is a very confusing condition. Have you had an endoscopy?
Hi Angela. Yes I have had an endoscopy. It showed a hiatus hernia (2cm), multiple fundic gland polyps and mild gastritis. There was no damage to my oesophogus . Biopsies were normal.
The endoscopy was 3 years ago so I would really like a repeat but there is no hope on NHS. It is a worry.
Are you hoping to wean off the PPIs?
