Oesophageal manometry and 24 Ph testing

I am booked to have Oesophageal manometry and 24hr Ph testing next week

I have been asked to stop my daily pantoprazole 40mg for 7 days before the test which is going to be very difficult

Has anyone undergone these 2 tests and how did you manage eating, working and sleeping with the tube and monitor attached?

Any tips would be very helpful. Thanks

Yes I had that test last year. I was petrified and really didn't want to have it done but I knew I had to. Can I just say that it really isn't as bad as you expect. The nurses and clinicians were very good and calming. I would say though, I was relieved to have the device removed the next day. Don't worry.

Did you get the test done in UK under NHS? How soon did you get the results?

Yes it was done on the NHS. I waited about a week and then a letter arrived outlining their findings. It is a very thorough test and to be honest I don't know of anyone else that has had it. It would be a very good move to go ahead. Don't worry about it.

Manometry a little uncomfortable, but after ph tube is inserted, you hardly notice it's there. No issues with food, sleep, anything. Doctor told me ok to remove it myself at the end of test, before returning it. Cane out easy. My doctor wanted to see the acid levels on current meds, so I did not have to stop PPI's.

It’s not the easiest of procedures to cope with and does feel quite uncomfortable as opposed to painful but it’s just 24 hours. As far as I remember you can still use Gaviscon Advance up to the day before the test.

I slept up right and didn’t go to work while undergoing the test. I certainly wouldn’t advocate removing the tube yourself though!
