Food testing/acid reflux

I have a hiatus hernia but didn't get many problems with food/drink until I got covid. It must have really inflamed my gut for over a year now....giving me gastritis, oesophagitis and candida in oesophagus and probably whole body. This is turn has made the acid problems awful 24/7. I have had to eliminate many acidic foods and alcohol. I then tried eliminating cow's milk products which seemed to help a bit but it hasn't gone away. I've just had food testing and treatment by a kineisiologist and have a whole list of foods to avoid. Surprisingly onions and garlic were not on the list, whereas leeks (which I'd substituted instead, were!) So, it is worth having testing as you can't always go by the list suggested on Dr Google!I also have 2 supplements to take which were recommended: slippery elm for the acid/gut issues and juniper/parsley for the candida.

Has anyone tried a kineisiologist or either of these supplements? I would be really interested in your comments if so as I don't know if they are just placebos or not.

Hi, I tried a kinesiologist who told me I was gluten intolerant. I removed gluten from my diet for months but to no avail.

Thanks for your reply. So I take it you don't think much of kinesiology? I'm wondering if it's worthwhile now for diagnosing these problems?

That's my only experience of it. It didn't help me. That's all I can say.

Hi, sorry to hear about your problems. I too have a Hiatal hernia and Gastritis, I had mild Covid about six months ago but luckily it didn't seem to affect my existing acid reflux problems. I have tried every supplement available over the years including dairy. PPI's and Gaviscon help but I still have to sleep upright and be careful what I eat and drink. If you have never had PPI's e.g. Omeprazole, it might be worth asking for a month or so course to see if it heals your inflammation. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. I do have a raised reflux pillow which seems to help a bit. I've also tried Omeprazole and Lansoprazole...both gave horrid side effects especially Omeprazole where I ended up in A and E and lasting problems to date. I tried Pantoprazole for one month which seemed to help but then got side effects and a really itchy skin and rashes so had to stop them. I just rely on Gaviscon Advance and cutting down on acidic foods. ...hence going for food testing/kineisiologist. Some things do help a bit but don't stop it altogether plus I've come out in awful itching and rashes. It's all so horrid unfortunately and you wonder what to do next.

You could try a PPI called Rabeprazole, I believe it works in a slightly different way. Regards.
