Stopped PPI's - Got An Ulcer - Need Dietary Advice

Hi all

I stopped Pantoprazole mid March this year. Awful acid rebound. Taking Nizatidine 300mg.

Developed an ulcer mid July so back on Pantoprazole. On re-starting the PPI I became depressed and anxious so cut back dose as much as I could.

Re - scoped last week and ulcer is healed.

I have again stopped PPI.

Oesophagus is becoming sore again. I find that I am pretty good on milky food like smoothies but anything else triggers burning. Mornings are OK, after lunch things go downhill.

Using Gaviscon Advance but it isn't a complete answer, though I shall keep trying.

Does anyone have any dietary advice for dealing with acid reflux? I can't live on smoothies...

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul, I stopped taking pantoprazole fairly early after my ivor lewis operation. I thought because I was not getting any acid Reflux I would be ok not taking it. Well big mistake! I ended up In ER and was told my oesophagus looked like it had been shredded and I also had internal bleeding!

Ended up having 4 units of blood and a iron infusion before leaving hospital. Needless to say I am back on the drug. Does pantoprazole cause depression??

I take it in the mornings before I eat anything.

Also I tend to eat early in the day so that I am not struggling with Reflux come bed time.

Maybe have a talk with your doc

Good luck

Hello Paul. I agree with Jumpey that if you want to reduce your symptoms with diet there is lots of advice available. Recently I have been diagnosed with LPR & was taking Omeprazole & Gaviscon Advance daily but decided to try changing my diet - I’m using a book called The Acid Watcher Diet by Dr Jonathan Aviv & am getting a lot of support from the linked Facebook group. It’s early days for me but I’ve already seen an improvement. I got the book from my local library
