Hi everyone.

Been on lansoprazole now for just over 5 days and initially worked great with no side effects but yesterday day 6 had the most awful stomach pain and dashed to the loo and yellow poop direahea.. And reading all your other stories about side effects iam not sure I want to continue taking the ppi.. 🤔

My pain I have is middle burning pain down my what seems my gullet and under my breast bone on both sides.. I usually take pepto bismol but I can't. Seem too get this over the counter now? So went to my GP who prescribed me with 30mg of lansoprazole to take one a day.. With what she thought was acid reflux.. But not sure if its a ulcer as I have read about my pains and points to a ulcer?

What iam asking is reading all your comments about the effects and constant direahea iam not sure if I want to take this meds or try something less as I don't want to be attached to the house with constant direahea 😔

Any advice of any alternatives would be great.. Thanks

Hi, sorry to hear about your negative side effects. Lansoprazole was the opposite for me and made me constipated. It might help if you don't take it on an empty stomach, maybe try taking it 45 minutes before lunch, that's what I do. Re. the Pepto Bismol, Gaviscon Advance is just as good, it was recommended to me by my GP, it is stronger than the normal Gaviscon. You can buy it on Amazon and most supermarkets I think. Good luck.

HelloFirst of all thanks for replying..

I dont take on a empty stomach but after eating breakfast which seems better than a empty stomach... I have been told now to stop on the lansoprazole for now. by the doctor and to go on beta blockers and see how that is for my acid reflux although she wants me now to have a H pylori test as to which she said I might have that infection 🤔.. Also... And to have various other blood tests to see what is going on.. I guess at least they are trying to see what it might be..

And now I have stopped taking the lansoprazole I feel a whole lot better and have started taking the extra strong gaviscon which helps although gone away completely..

So thanks for your advice.. And hope you feel better. Soon..

Hi,sorry to hear about your problems. I have been taking lansoprazole for about seven months now, 30mg a day,one tablet in morning, for acid reflux problems that were mainly symptoms in my throat. I started taking omezrapole, but these gave me terrible constipation,so doctor put me on lansoprazole. I still get occasional constipation, and for the last month or two been getting diarrhoea, not all the time though. I think the lansoprazole are helping my problems as I only seem to suffer from constant swallowing some days, but I think this is down to what I eat.ialso suffer from terrible pain in my left hand side under my ribs, and this stretches from my stomach right round to my back, this can happen a few times a month and always seems to happen in the early hours of the morning,it wakes me up and I'm unable to lie down on any part of my body as the pain is so bad, even sitting down is painful and I have to get up,I end up walking around for hours until I feel it starting to get better, this can last from half hour for mild pain to dive or six hours for severe pain that is accompanied with nausea, sweating, and being sick. I had an endoscopy and I have a hiatus hernia and a smooth stomach lining which slows down my digestion apparently. I'm sorry for this long reply but your problems could be gastro related as well as reflux, also you might have a hiatus hernia, hopefully not. I try to watch what I eat and keep a diary so I know what da to s I am bad I try not to eat the same things, even though you can eat the same things before and be okay.i stay clear of diary, chocolate and tea or coffee and drink camomile tea and use soya milk. Another thing that I avoid is items that have been made in sunflower oil. But I know what works for someone doesn't work for others. I hope you get better. Again sorry for the long reply, lol.

HelloThanks for your reply

Iam sorry you have so many conditions and side effects related to your hernia.. I do hope I haven't got this also.. But the pains associated with your hernia sound very much like my symptoms.. 😕.. But my doctor has not asked me to a H pylori test as I might have that infection... Which is not good.. And also she is doing more blood tests to see what it might be..

I too have to watch what I eat... And I have started taking extra strong Gavisgon which helps too..

So I hope you feel better too.. Take care
