Hi All

I hope someone on here has experienced similar to what am going through.

I have been on Lanzoprozole 15mg for many year about 2 months again I started with the worst acid reflux causing epigastric pain, chest pain, burning throat, back pain in between shoulder and cough. Doctor advised increased Lanzoprozole to 30mg and referral for endoscopy.

Then was having intermittent reflux, less burning in the throat and cough but still epigastric and back pain. 3weeks ago had endoscopy results clear, advice carry on dose of Lanzoprozole for a month no improvement then ask gp for alternative. Thing have been up and down, went out Saturday night had a few drinks (which not done in a while) and omg I feel so poorly with the reflux the epigastric pain and back pain is horrendous, had Neausa too.

am starting to start thinking it’s my gallbladder or my pancreas just overload in my head, I can’t get through to the GP so googling more (yes had idea I know)

sorry for long story am just worried and hoping for advice.

oh am eating gaviscon like sweets too.

Thanks for reading.

Read Dr.Louise Kaufman's Acid Reflux Diet. She's a renowned expert.

Hi Jumpey, what's a typical diet for you? I eat fish, prawns, chicken, broccoli, carrots, porridge and banana smoothies. All very plain, no sauces. Is that similar to what Dr Kaufman would recommend? It seems yo be working ok for me at the moment.

I will be trying a bit more of them types of food, not smoothies though.

I do eat fruit, fish, pastas etc then occasionally I may eat fast food

I do think this exacerbation is from my night out with Alcohol so that won’t be happening again.

Thanks

Hi Bassem, yes probably the booze! I am very strict with my diet as I hope to stop taking Lansoprazole which I've only been taking for 6 weeks so still early days. I haven't had pasta as I don't think I would enjoy it without either a tomato based or creamy sauce - both of which should be avoided sadly. Good luck with it all!

Yes low acid and fat.

As Jumpey has suggested, I would recommend looking at your diet and going for bland foods for some time. It does really help. I would also suggest trying some good quality probiotics (they take a few weeks to start producing benefits) and drink plenty of water. You may well already be doing this, but thought it best to mention as the docs don't always tell you. Have you heard of an iqoro? That might be worth trying too. But yes, I'd go back to your doc if you're in a lot of pain., rather than wait a month. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi

Thank you both for the reply, I do need to change my diet am not very unhealthy I eat healthy food but at the moment am struggling to eat as I feel quite sick.

How debilitating is this and the most common thing. Am so fed up

Also I would go back to the doctors if I could get in, I have done an online triage but states can take 5 days to reply.

Thanks

Yeah, it is very debilitating 😔 I've struggled to eat much since early December and have lost more than 1.5 stone. Now just 8 stone something... my stomach has been so tight it's felt like an elephant standing on me. They found gastritis, though that doesn't apparently explain all my symptoms. I am praying that I will be healed and in the meantime looking up and implementing anything that can help. My appetite is slowly coming back. That reminds me, have you tried drinking ginger tea? It's very good at helping nausea and stomach issues.

Sorry to hear about the 5 day wait. I would try some ginger tea for sure. I cut and peel about an inch of ginger (maybe a little less) and pour boiling water over and leave to steep for 20 mins then sip. Its lovely hot or cold. You can have 1 or 2 cups a day, although you have to be careful with ginger if you're on any blood thinners.

If the pain gets any worse for you or you're not coping I'd head to an a&e. Hope the GP replies sooner...

In January I went on Lanzerpole as I felt around my hernia area was playing up,I took the tablets before any real symptoms kicked in , I don't know if the tablets helped or not but it got the throat clearing under control but I had a lot of neck chest pressure /ear pressure symptoms,I was on them for eight weeks then had to come off them, my diet at the time wasn't that strict as I had a few social gatherings going on! I had to come off them so they tested for h polri which was negative, I had to wait to see doctor again and she has arranged endoscopy. I seem ok mostly in the day but after the last meal of the day and when I sit down I get the burning throat and chest , it is strange as you feel like it is getting better but then have set backs.
