Acid Reflux and taking Pantoprazole 20mg

I have Fibromyalgia, I've been dealing with Acid Reflux and chest sensation. I also have been diagnosed with Osteopenia so I want to get off Pantoprazole for this reason. It's been at least 3 months that I've been on this drug - I get diarrhea from time to time too. Any advice would really be appreciated. My Dr. Said to go off of the Pantoprazole but I haven't yet. Thanks In advance.

It does now. But initially I had to drastically change my diet.

Really 😢 Getting rid of acid forming foods & excersize more, oh and that thing called 😬 stress. That one is a hard thing to get rid of in today's world I think 🤔

Absolutely. You can do it! I'm no longer in crisis and can eat a larger range of foods now.

I'm so happy for you 😊 I was doing ok then it just hit a while ago. What kind of food did you have to eat//drink or not eat?

Too many to list.I followed the Kaufman book. I'm a veggie so it was even harder.

I have minimised my symptoms by losing onions, garlic, lemon juice, tomatoes, orange juice, curry. I have a fairly plain bland evening meal but it is worth it.

Ok, that's good to know that 🙂 bland is ok for me too 🙏❤️ Are you taking any kind of medication for the acid Reflux? Or just change in diet?

I have Gaviscon Advance or bicarbonate of soda when it feels uncomfortable. 😨

What's the difference between Gaviscon and Gaviscon Advance?

Thank you

Thank you very much for your reply! When you stop Advance, will it cause rebound effects?

Thank you

Sometime ago a digestive specialist said take Gaviscon like Smarties as often as you like. But it’s up to you of course.

Do you have Fibromyalgia as well?

If you have been on PPI for three months + you will get acid rebound if you go cold turkey. Taper very slowly and have Rennies/Gaviscon/Peptac etc with you at all times.

You can easily get an ulcer if you are not careful. Lots of Ibuprofen to cope with pain can injure your kidneys... Ask me how I know.

Beware miracle cure books - they are money spinners written for people who have mild symptoms and an over active imagination.

Thanks for your advice. I will be very cautious about everything. Did you end up with an ulcer?

Two ulcers and injured kidneys. I had to go back on PPI. 23 years now. After botched heart surgery three years ago I was also diagnosed with osteopenia. OK now, just had DEXA scan. I supplement with everything that malabsorption compromises.

I have aperistaltic oesophagus so controlling reflux challenging. Currently being assessed for surgery.

Are you holding your own on the Osteopenia? They have something that they can do for you now to stop it from turning into Osteoporosis. Some kind of IV they use, My neighbor does it and is 77 years old and doing well

Osteopenia has resolved. Have a look at vitamin K2 if you are interested in calcium. Good YouTube video by York Cardiology (I think).
