Lansoprazole feedback

I’m new here and having a hard time coping with silent reflux which amongst other symptoms gives me a burning mouth and sore lips. Have had a lot of mucus in my throat for two and a half years and wrongly diagnosed until May . Have been treated with gaviscon advance for a few weeks but now on 30 mg lansoprazole once a day. It doesn’t seem to be helping. Any suggestions will be much appreciated

Hi, sorry to hear about your problems. Have you tried Famotidine? It is the replacement for Zantac. My GP prescribed it for me and I take a PPI in the morning and Famotidine two hours before bed, then Gaviscon Advance at bed time. I still have to sleep (or try) sitting up, but it may work well for you, it's worth a try. Good luck.

It didn't work for me either.Omeprazole was better. I also use Cimetidine. Good luck.

You are doing the usual bed raisers, eating smaller meals, not eating late, looking for trigger foods…..?

Hi I have silent reflux and get burning mouth. I've had it for years now. I'm not aware of the reflux just that my mouth burns. I find it quite depressing when my mouth is bad but I can go long periods now with it not being too bad.The strange thing I find is that my mouth is usually at its best in the morning. It gets steadily worse through out the day and is at its worst by the evening. Considering I'm meant to have acid reflux I would have thought it would be the opposite.

Anyway I've changed my diet to high fibre which has improved digestion. I've done my best to improve gut bacteria. I've stopped taking omneprazole as it didn't seem to be making any difference. I take Gaviscon at night and sleep with my upper body raised. This helps.

When my mouth is bad the only time I get relief from it is when I'm eating. Chewing chewing gum helps give a bit of relief.

Some toothpastes I find irritate. When my mouth isn't too bad I use Sensadyne Pro enamel which doesn't have parabans in. If its really bad I use oranurse which has no taste. You have to order it at a chemist or buy online. I'm interested to know how you get on as burning mouth isn't that recognised by doctors and it isn't absolutely certain that it is caused by reflux. Sometimes I think it is and sometimes not. One other theory is that it's caused by nerve damage. I don't know. Good luck and if you find any new information please let me know.

Thank you now I know I’m not the only one with burning mouth. The lansoprazole tablets don’t seem to be helping and I am experiencing the same symptoms as you. I am going to try and see my doctor again tomorrow to see what she suggests next. However during the last week I have realised that the burning starts if I forget to bend over from my knees. This is what is making the acid come up into my mouth. It also happens when bending over the washbasin to clean my teeth. Will let you know if I find out anything new.

I have similar issue to you. Been having awful taste in my mouth for months burning tongue etc.I am on one 30mg Lansoprazole first thing in the morning and Gaviscon before bedtime.

Have changed to a more healthy diet and small portions also started to do some exercise nothing excessive.

Not cured but imoroving got to work at it try to reduce acid foods.

Lots of fibre also. Good luck.

Thankyou for your reply. Since my last post I was put on 30 mg lansoprazole two times a day for 2 months after 6 weeks I felt so bad with diarrhoea and no real improvement with my burning mouth and lips the doctor referred me for a gas trophy and put me on 40 mg Famotidine twice a day with gaviscon when needed. I more or less felt a lot better straight away and slowly some of my symptoms are subsiding. As there is a long waiting list for the camera down I am paying privately to see a gasterologist next Wednesday to see if I can get to the bottom of what’s going wrong. Still sleeping on a raised bed no alcohol and trying to avoid food and drinks that cause any burning mouth and nose flare ups. Hope this helps

my latest news on burning mouth. I have now given up taking all acid suppressants as I didn’t think they were doing any good and only making me feel bad. I am now using sensodyne toothpaste which does not contain sodium laural sulphate and putting hydrocortisone cream on my flaking lips - inside my lips as well as outside-. My mouth is a lot better unless something really acidic sets it off. Still sleeping on a raised bed head and trying to keep to a low acid diet.

Sorry to read you're a fellow sufferer but also glad that others are looking for solutions. I've been learning to live with the burning mouth and my strategies that I mentioned above really help. I try to cut out acid foods too. Unfortunately that includes wine which I love.
