Hi guys, ive just recently started taking lansoprazole 2 weeks ago. I still feel i am getting the same symptoms at this point, or more a slight rebound in these the last couple days, Although this has coincided with going down from 2 to 1 a day after a weeks triple combo course for h pylori. Also i don't know how much anxiety and googling etc is playing in to this. I have read that symptoms should start to improve after 2/3 days but can still have acid symptoms for up to 4 weeks after. I'm just wondering if after the event anyone has had this concern at this point with symptoms, and if so have they found these have slowly gone away between the likes of week 2 & 4, especially as some anxiety subsides. I have also typically had a cold virus at the wrong time so been coughing loads with that which hasnt had the best affect on my throat with mucus etc, so i dont know if that is aggravating my chest. Essentially coughing up while trying to also suppress acid down the opposite way. Any help as to people feeling this way a couple weeks in but seen improvement after a few more weeks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

lansoprazole
Hi Anth, don't worry too much, it can take a little time to settle, but it does work. It's not surprising you've felt that it was resurfacing if you've had the cough going on too, let yourself recover from that.I found it helpful to prop up the head end of my bed for a few weeks, just a few inches (I used some old books) and then you have the assistance of gravity. Also lying/sleeping on your left side rather than the right helps keep the acid down.
Good luck and be kind to yourself 🙂
I can only speak from my experience of course.
I am almost symptom free after taking 30mg Lansoprazole for two months.
For the past 7 years I have only ever taken 15mg for a few days here and there because I was anxious about it affecting my bones-I have osteoporosis.
My new doctor suggested this regime. I only ever had a cough with the reflux but it was a debilitating amount of coughing!
Can’t say it won’t return but I will know what to try.
Stick at it!
Thanks for your reply. Did you feel it worked right away or that you was still getting symptoms 2 weeks in, and then getting the frustration and doubt about it?
Hi there, I also have reflux and osteoporosis. Did your Dr say it’s okay to keep taking the Lansoprazole permanently? Do you take any drugs for the osteoporosis? Thank you.
Over 7 years I took Lansoprazole intermittently but the 2 months at 30mg daily have really improved my symptoms. Now I only take Gaviscon occasionally.
I don’t take anything other than calcium and vitamin D for the osteoporosis. I took low dose HRT for a few years and Bodypump- a weight lifting exercise seemed to help.
Look at diet and exercise for both conditions.
Good wishes
Yes you do have to persist and you have had some other health issues getting in the way.
Good wishes
I take Lanzoprazole 30mg every morning for the past week. Also, I take 10ml of Gaviscon(as prescribed) after meals. I drink alcohol and take spicy foods but have no reflux at all over a week.
