Hi, I’ve been trying to find answers for over 5 years. I get pretty bad upper abdominal pain upon waking every morning but after an hour or so propped up in bed it fades and I can get up.
Alcohol makes it far worse and means I’ll wake up in the night feeling terrible with pain, sweating and nausea. Hence I hardly touch alcohol.
Some years ago it became really bad - especially during the night - and I was hospitalised and put on morphine. Since then it’s stabilised. Back then I was also getting a lot of reflux/ regurgitation which I don’t really get so much anymore.
I’ve run the gamut of specialists and gone from diagnosis of GERD/NERD to Chronic pancreatitis to fibromyalgia. My diagnosis is currently parked at ‘dunno’ and seems to be going no further.
I’m on omeprazole, pregabylin, amitrypyline and recently steroid inhalers and mometasone for new congestion/lung issues which could be connected - who knows! I used to wake up with a dry tickling cough in the night
Anyway, I wondered if any of you good people might have a similar experience that would throw light on this one.
I’m a bit fed up with the way these things get left when it’s not totally straightforward.
Thanks,
C

I don't think I can't help much , but how high is your mattress head, I was told between ,,8/10, inches. Not with pillow. Or it can damage your neck.Hope this helps a bit
Sounds like Gastritis - no cure but watch your diet. I have put myself on Biomel and Low Fodmap Fibre (from Biomel ) which seems to help - I too have been hospitalised numerous times with severe abdominal pain and put on Morphine - when it goes it is like heaven!!! With the acid reflux I was offered an operation but declined as I did not fancy it. When I get acid reflux I take Gaviscon Advance and it usually takes it off. I have an adjustable bed and sleep on my left side and with several inches raised head - no pillow. If I feel any signs of gastritis I take 2 Buscopan and most times it sees it off. I also take a peppermint capsule at night before I go to bed. These are only a description of what helps me - if you are on medication for it check with your doctor.
Thanks Kersey, that’s really helpful advice. I think I’m going to pay to see a gastro privately again as I’m currently just throwing drugs at it with no guidance or interest from anyone as to whether they’re actually doing anything.
Hi i get very tight on eating all around chest. I have bile gastritis oesophagitis sliding hernia. Take lansoprazole .For tightness gp said try Buscopan. You take it then? How does it help acid reflux? Relaxes stomach? I also have peppermint oil capsules for bloating. I thought tho peppermint was a no no for gerd,? How does it help you?? I take meds at night then Gaviscon so can you take peppermint with Gaviscon?
Also my pain burning is always just in back. Never rarely want to burp or front stomach pain. I can taste what eaten hours after. Gaviscon burns in back when take.
I have a wedge 2 pillows as cant raise bed disabled. My cousin has same place pain as me and she does low fodmap tokd me too. Dont know why? Maybe cos brocolli etc takes ages to digest but.so does meat??? I get a lot of gas
Nope. Afraid not. Ongoing with no answers, and been effectively told I’ll just have to live with it. Will need to pursue privately, since it took 2 years for the last appt. Good luck.
