Not Sure What Is Causing This

I have had excess stomach acid issues all my life. As a child I was diagnosed with acidosis. I couldn't eat anything fried or melted cheese or cooked tomatoes without being sick.

As I got into my teens it seemed to mostly go away although in my late teens and early twenties the heartburn returned with a vengeance and I would eat antacid tablets like candy.

Again it seemed to largely relapse but getting into my forties it got worse again and I ended up being prescribed Omeprazole. Over the pst 6-7 years I've developed a cough that comes on for several minutes after eating and also when sitting down. I have a Hiatus hernia, but the medics seem to think it's only small and not worth operating on. I am overweight too - BMI is 31. My GP did send me for a scan for the hernia, but he was of the opinion that it was acid reflux causing the cough.

I've also been diagnosed with Crohn's in 2015. That seems to be quite mild on the grand scale of things though.

It's the cough that's most annoying. None of this is life-threatening, but it's real a nuisance It's also been embarrassing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

HAs anyone else experienced this kind of issue?

I sometimes get a cough (and breathing difficulties) from reflux, even though I have no other symptoms of the condition at the time. As I also happen to asthmatic this can cause some confusion, and in the past has done. These days I can usually distinguish between the two - the most obvious thing being that if it’s reflux it always comes on after eating, or even drinking. I have been checked for food allergies, all of which came back negative, so we know it isn’t that. The condition is known as silent reflux - more properly Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR)- and can result in symptoms such as a cough even though the more usual symptoms of reflux (such as heartburn) are absent. .
