Sweetcorn kernels and peas !

Hi team, I'm getting pain when I try to swallow even heavily chewed above ingredients.Anyone found that blitzing them in a blender before eating helps them go down.My tumour is at the junction between esophagus and stomach so some foods like these cause pain. Oddly I can happily eat crisps and crackers.Weird eh?

Hi,

I personally would try and avoid anything that is circle shape and that can't dissolve in the mouth if it's causing you pain. My dad could never eat peas, even though they are so small they always got stuck! Crisps and crackers are recommended due to them being able to crumble and dissolve in the mouth which will pass down the oesophagus easier.

I did vast research on foods at the beginning of my dad's journey as he could only have liquids and found out so much.

Hope this helps and good luck 🙂

Yes I would agree with Kayliegh. I have learnt the art of finding food that disintegrates or melts as I have a long term stricture due to radiotherapy. Crisps and crackers disintegrate with moisture (I always drink plenty). Veg like peas and sweetcorn are fibrous. I use well cooked veg like cauliflower and carrots which I can mash down and are wet. Also bread tends to form a bolus that can catch - the same with meat. Did they give you the book on recipes for oesophageal cancer? - although I think there are a few there I couldn’t manage. Not sure if that helps you .

Thankyou so much I'm talking to the dietician this afternoon so he might have ideas too.But this is helpful as from what yourself and Kayleigh suggest even blitzed fibrous foods are a no no.So I shall stick with the less fibrous and husk ones.Thankyou...as always it's great to know what others have tried and tested.x
