Spelling words or sentence by part?

Uhmm.. I'm just wondering if anyone also experience something like this, I keep on repeating or spelling words in my head unconsciously. Sometimes I want to stop spelling it but I can't, not until I finish what I wanted to spell and group it. 😅

I know this kind of nonsense but that's just how my mind works... sometimes to the point that my head hurts, migraine?

Uhmm.. It's just simple words and phrases... Like this for example, "word". My mind will spell that as "w-o-r-d". Nothing out of the ordinary, right? Not until I'm going to spell words/phrases that has more than or less than 4 letters.

Letters... In my head it keep spelling "l-e-t/t-e-r-s"

I love you... "I-l-o-v/e-y-o-u"

Always in 4's. Or 8's..?

Sometimes... S _o-m-e-t/i-m-e-s

I really like... I-r-e _a-l-l-y/l-i-k-e

Anyone?..

I think it's a lot like some of the counting rituals that a lot of people with OCD do. Particularly as it involves counting.

One method of tackling it is simply to let your mind do it. Don't argue or question it, but try to let it alone. Allowing it to flow but not challenging it or questioning it helps to rob it of its power over your mind. It's not the easiest trick to learn, but it can be very helpful.

I don't know if meditation could help. Ten or fifteen minutes of just letting your mind go which way it will, not trying to regulate your thoughts, question them or put them in any sort of order, just letting them flow. I don't know if it could help but could be worth a try.

Thank you. ☺I'll try that "meditation".

Yeah.. 🤔Maybe I'm just too stressed out and my mind need to relax sometimes.

It looks like counting OCD in this people count numbers, words, letters, tiles, and different things. Try to stop doing it I know it is tough at first but try doing it slowly. You can also see a therapist and try ERP therapy that will also help you a lot to deal with OCD.

You can read some articles on counting OCD and ERP therapy to get a better understanding.

Hiya! I have a similar issue as you do. I find it really hard to read things as I have to re read the sentences a lot! I haven’t managed to break this yet but I know for me I find it hard to stop things gradually so I would have to go ‘cold turkey’ and just completely stop. Maybe this could would for you too but you may be a more gradual reducer.
