Hi my daughter has contamination ocd, triggered by nose bogies etc.

Her compulsions are avoidance (lots) washing hands and reassurance. She is with CAMHS now who have prescribed 25 mg of setraline daily. I have been giving her inositol for about five weeks now and have gradually seems reduction in her anxiety. She started setraline on wed and mammoth sure if it is that or the inositol but she seems

Much

More chatty engaging, not avoiding so much, she would go to her room early as not to have to stay with us for too long incase we touched our nose or itches our face or something. I had heard that setraline dosage for ocd is quite high, somdoes that mean they will

Keep increasing and if she were to have side effects would they have started by now ? Or is this dosage too low . She 14 in august.

Many thanks

Often the dosage of sertraline for OCD is quite high. I took 200 mg for a number of years, but that was put up to 300 mg when I was in Springfield Hospital being treated for OCD.

Having said that, those prescribing medication are cautious about giving antidepressants to children and really only prescribe sertraline to anyone under 18 in cases of OCD. And children on sertraline should be monitored carefully.

The dosage may well be increased, as long as your daughter remains well on it. But make sure you report any problems or any worsening of her condition.

I hadn't heard of inositol before, so thanks for putting me onto it. I've just been reading up about it, and studies appear to be positive, though the benefits of using it alongside sertraline aren't clear. It sounds promising, particularly as side effects appear to be few.

Yes I started that at 12 grams 5 weeks ago and it say six weeks for

Any improvements but I have def seen improvements in her moon and they way

She interacts with us , contamination ocd is on still there but things are being let go of and she is chatty not so on edge abo it everything and not had a major panic attack touch wood for about 3- 4 weeks .

So when CAMHs put her on setraline the psychiatrist said to stop it as she hasn’t heard of it but o checked with my dr and she said that there were no ill effects of the two together. So as the inositol has been calming things down I didn’t want to stop them before th six weeks and go back to square one. So have reduced to 6 grams and the prescribed 25 mg of setraline - she has been have EMdr with CAMHs and we have family therapy so to reduce our enabling!!! And am hoping after setraline kicks I. And anxiety allows her to work on erp , she did however after six weeks of not doing, went out into garden and spoke to her sister yesterday which was good, brushed her teeth and de tangled her hair which I thought was going to have to be chopped off as it it long and I’m a massive Matt of tangles after her not wanting to use a brush for 12-13 weeks!!!

So not sure if doing right but was hopi g the inositol would help with the start of the setraline if you know what I mean , thanks for your reply sorry will prob message again as you seem to have a huge knowledge of ocd and it’s horrid hold , thankyou for helping and sharing with others

It sounds as though she is starting to make progress! From the literature, I gather that there is no harm in combining inositol with sertraline. I'm going to ask about it and read up about it. If it's as effective as sertraline, then it could help a lot of people!

I'm pleased that CAMHS have stepped up and are helping the whole family. It's so difficult for family and friends. I know I've tried the patience of mine!

Yes it’s quite a big dose like 18grams a day, she has been having 12 grams but thought to be careful would reduce to 6-8 whilst taking the setraline and am hoping maybe the setraline dose may not have to be as high ??? I’ve found 1000mg capsules as she didn’t like the powder in water but I read

Most people say itS. I’ve tasting,

So 12 capsules aday is a bit of a pain and she does like to procrastinate as I think most ocd sufferers do. Yes we borrowed mi eh from my parents for ERP intensive Skype therapy stopped her having showers but threw her the other way and then she went two weeks not showering!!! Then the lady has been ill and I can’t afford

More of the expensive therapy , CAMHs came about and she has been Skyping with them for 6 weeks and doing EMdr but not much change and the counsellor says she doesn’t like to feel any negative

Emotions , I am very

Emotional so get so upset when she is having a major panic attack so have been researching g stuff myself . I know ERP is the major major one to do but she says I just can’t I just ca t so I have rescue reassurance , enabling etc and

Am

Hoping this will help but am sure inositol has helped her and maybe helping with the transition. TK

Meds too!!!! ??? I know it says it doesn’t benefit to take both as inositol should work after 6 weeks for some but really just want her to get better so. Read it doesn’t do any harm both at same time and if she does ERP and EMdr too, who know sxxxxxxxx thankyou x
