My daughter is 13 and has

Contamination ocd,

Her therapist says she has a very low frustration threshold and even I k ask her a question or say something she doesn’t want to hear, she will get anxious and nearly end up having a panic attacks. At the moment she gets up late, watches tv, goes on her phone, avoids everything that triggers her and expects us to walk on egg shells around the house and be spoken to I. A not so great way!

All because of ocd,

Her therapist form CAMHs has told

Is we need to set boundaries, touch our faces, noses,

Not turn tao on etc , tell

Her to

Pack

Things away I’m

A

Certain

Amount of time or we will. I am

Okay I’m doing this but

Know she will

Be

Going mad about every 10

Minutes

Of

The day and the whole

Family suffers, her therapist

Says she will

Get better ,

I just need some hope as am

Losing our daughter who was gorgeous beautiful

Inside and out.

Many thanks

Having OCD can be hard on the family of the sufferer! But it sounds as though all the boundaries are being set not by you, but by her.

Don't be too worried about her getting up late. She's a teenager, and that's what they do if they can!

It's difficult to join a group at the moment, but perhaps a family and carers support group could give you an opportunity to swap experiences and tips on living with someone with OCD as well as mutual support.

Although therapists tell you that you should not accommodate the OCD in any way, in practice it is impossible not to make some compromises with it.

There are also books and chapters of books aimed at carers. I have in front of me The OCD Workbook, which is helpful anyway. But Chapter 15, It Happens to Children Too and Chapter 17, OCD is a Family Affair, may be of particular help.
