I feel my ocd has got worse

I have had ocd for many many years and normally I dont need meds, i have had counselling before and have just started talking therapy again, I'm also on fluoxetine, so days are worse than others but with all that's going on with this virus I feel so insettled. The other day for example I killed a spider which I dont normally do and I just felt I'd have bad karma I know it sounds daft but then 2 days later my daughter got nipped by a dog and I felt that was my karma for killing the spider, I know it's not and its daft but I just feel like everything is out of my control which I dont cope well with. If anyone needs someone to talk to feeling similar to me please contact may be we can help eachother through this. Take care and stay safe x

HI

it s normal to have OCD like anxieties, but you should try not to dwell too much on them, else it augments your OCD issues.

When you think about it, was just killing a spider - you dint run anybody over with the car so stay relaxed, say sorry to the spider and continue your life as before.m Just let it be.

Accept whats happened and dont make karma connections,. you will feel better.

P.s. I have had the same experiences from time to time and really the only way (well its my way..) is to be sorry to the spider and carry on with life.

hope this helps somewhat

be well

Thank you for replying and you are right it's about accepting something and moving forward just easier said than done sometimes but I do dwell that is something I need to work on

accepting and moving on is very difficult but it gets easier with time. You get courage and a more relaxed feeling as you succeed in letting go. Divert your thoughts from what is constantly ruminating in your mind now to somethingm more plesant -do somethig practical, it will help taking your mind off things.

Nor easy at first but you get in charge of your thinking sooner or later.

Hope this helps

Cheers

One of the things OCD makes us do is to connect in our minds incidents that are totally unrelated. So killing a spider did not cause your daughter to be bitten by a dog, but OCD makes you think one caused the other.

Don't kill spiders! They are beautiful! But that is beside the point.

It's the nature of OCD to fluctuate, and a little stress can cause a lot of increase in OCD symptoms. So I'm not surprised yours is worse.

Try to keep as much as possible of your normal routine. I don't mean in an OCD way, of course, just keep things as normal as possible. Keep busy where you can as OCD likes idleness and thrives on it.

It sounds as though you have coped well with OCD in the past. Put into practice the various coping mechanisms you have learned work best, and I hope you can get over this soon.

Hi, thank you for your reply, routine really helps me and because of what's happening at the moment my routine is out the window, so I've taken your advice and basically I'm creating a new routine for the time being and plan things to do around the house and garden the day before so I know roughly what in doing each day and hopefully that may help x

That sounds sensible! It's surprising how quickly we can settle into a new routine.

My current OCD in this current situation is cleaning my cars. I have 3 cars to clean (my wife, my daughters and mine). At the moment I seem to move from one obsession to the next. I am due to have therapy soon, but with the current lockdown, I don’t know when it will start. We all have relapses every now and then. Keep safe and just focus on the positives.

HI

one question, why do you have to clean the cars - cant somebody else do it? In your shoes, between cleaning cars and incur ocd problems AND no cleaning cars and not incurring OCD problems, I would drive with a dirty car and OCD cant touch me.

As life would have it and as far at this particular illness functions, OCD will find another way to bother you, maybe. and maybe less.

Start with leaving the cars alone. You will feel better for not having to give in to an OCD obligation.

Is this useful? I hope so.

take care.

Hi Gaz

how is it going with the cars? I read your post and my reply and it occurred to me that the OCD is that maybe you HAVE to clean the cars. So I kind of missed the plot in my reply.

You will know better what to do - if you HAVE to clean the cars, try to diminish the work or leave them unclean until its just impossible for you to do so, if dont have to, leave the cars

alone or park them in the rain. I do that when I cant be bothered to clean mine.

Cheers

be well

Max
