Hi just me again hope yous are all well and doing good!

My friend has anxiety and depression she is having a really bad time I have told her to join this website for help as I think it's brilliant for support and help she is having really bad intrusive thoughts that make it feel so really that she will act on the thoughts of ending her own life she don't want to so why she thinking like that for I have told her I have them as well and a lot of people do! It makes her so sick and anxious can any one help please! Is it normal to have thoughts like that and for them to feel so real? I will let her read the reply so she knows she is t the only one and it's not just her that gets them

Thanks!

Definitely, it’s a 24/7 struggle. She must get help though there is no shame in it. It is an illness that a lot of people, including myself can hide when needs be. It is so miserable and takes so long to ease that the quicker she gets help the better.

Thoughts can feel as though they're real. Occasionally I have the horrible feeling that I have said something out loud that I didn't mean to, something that might hurt somebody, but I know it's just that the thought voiced itself in my head so vividly that it just felt like that.

It's perfectly normal, and the difference is that with people without OCD it simply doesn't bother them that much. The thoughts drift into your head, and then drift out again, and you don't pay them much attention. The problem with OCD is that the same thoughts drift into your head, and you attach importance to them, importance which they don't deserve, and hold onto them. So they don't just drift out again.

She certainly isn't the only one. It's an old remedy, I know, but if you aren't doing anything then OCD likes to fill the gap with intrusive thoughts. So it helps to keep busy. And medication might help, if she isn't already taking it, and CBT.

It could well be OCD. It can be very confusing. I hope the doctor can help, and if need be refer her to a therapist.
