It's not an easy thing to decide. I got really nervous when it was suggested I take a low dose of aripiprazole a few years ago, and read up about it and thought and thought. I had had a bad experience with a similar drug called sulpiride some years back, which didn't do me much good and made me put on weight until I stopped it.
I decided to take the plunge and went on the aripiprazole and it has worked well! And it doesn't make me put on weight. But this case is different.
I'm a bit concerned that you've had suicidal thoughts while on sertraline. They may be only temporary and worth the risk. Perhaps if you do decide to go back on sertraline you should insist on being monitored by a health professional while they kick in. And make sure you get in touch with your doctor if you feel really uneasy while taking it.
Oh Mydogb you sound really down. I have the same thoughts when starting new meds.Only thing is these thoughts were the reason I take antidepressants in the first place so don't know if it's meds or just me.Have you someone close who could keep an eye on your for the first 2 weeks which are the worst when starting these meds Hope you find something that works for you. I am just about to try fourth type of med since last September. Very much trial and error. Last lot gave me pancreaticis and doc stopped them straight away. Trying citalopram from tomorrow. Xx
