Hi everyone! My name is Phoenix and I was diagnosed with OCD in December 2016. I run two Youtube channels and I have decided to make a video of me talking about my diagnosis, therapy and other things I have found helpful along the way.

Thanks for this. I do know what it's like. Someone once told me I couldn't have OCD because it was about being obsessed with neatness and cleanliness! It takes many forms, and I have had the do-things-on-particular-days-of-the-week as well. I'm sure that you are a strong person as you have managed to achieve a lot by persistence and hard work where a lot of other people would have given up. And I'm sure that your experiences help you with your psychology degree. Keep going and keep us posted! Sally x x
Thanks for the reply Sally, it really meant a lot. My younger brother when I told him that I had OCD he said: "That makes sense because everytime I accidentally move your rug 2cm to the left, you get really angry at me!" And I couldn't help but laugh but after explaining it to him, he understood and realises that it can take many forms with some being more common than others.

One morning I literally got out of bed and went to the toilet and whilst washing my hands I looked at myself in the mirror and just didn't recognise myself anymore- I just looked ill and I knew it was because of my ex leaving me etc. But I was horrified that I had let myself get that bad so I pretty much yelled at myself and wrote down all of the things I'd like to do that year...kind of like new year's resolutions but something you know you will keep. I went to the uni library (because A. I'm easily distracted so if I'm going to do something important it's probably best I do it there B. An old friend wanted to meet up to check I was ok so I met him there so he could help me). And I spent hours and hours doing the things on my list....
I applied for a part-time job. I now work at Sainsbury's as an online shopper and I absolutely love it. It's a great team of people and I just love serving people and just being helpful.
I joined the university athletics team. I used to be very sporty whilst at secondary school-I was sports captain in year 11! I played on the netball team, the football team and the hockey team as well as the cross country team. I ended up competing for my county in netball and my town for athletics where I did heptathlon. I stopped when I started my A levels because I was too bogged down with work but I thought I'd start doing my favourite sport again. I've made a lot of new friends from being in athletics and it also helps you 'belong' to something. I love it.
I joined the local netball team. I train every week for 2 hours and play matches here and there on weekends. Most of the ladies are a lot older than me but even though I'm the youngest, I'm the most experienced given my background in county league netball. I am a competitive person by nature so netball matches me really well.
I knew I had failed university as I hadn't submitted several pieces of coursework but knew I could retake the year so I also spent a while getting some info about retaking and also contacting various different people to get more help and info and to get the ball rolling. It worked and I retook (as you saw in my video).
It's really important to remember that there is no magic cure for mental illnesses, it's a process. I do still have days where I am depressed or irritable etc and no amount of exercise/social contact/healthy food/sleep is going to help with that but it does reduce the amount of 'off' days I have. Just take each day as it comes, try and see what kind of hobbies you have that you maybe stopped doing or maybe try something new? I find sport to be a great outlet because it' literally just me focusing on me-it distracts me. But other people prefer drawing or playing musical instruments or cooking/baking or writing....find your distraction!!
