Can anyone advise on how to get the cartons open that are commonly called tetra packs, but the one I am having hastle with is called a Pure Pack.

It is the one with a ridge across the top. where you are supposed to put thumbs under ridge and pull apart then pull diagonally opposite corners.

I am74 with RA 18 yrs. left my hands as claws. Have just found a great range of soups and really find opening carton a night- mare

Have only got one open with saw bladed knife, stanley knife and scissors and got a lot of spillage and nearly cut my hands.

Have tried opening from base, just more mess.

Have you got an occupational therapist Siskin? If so you could ask for a gadget - they seem to have so many. If not you could ask for one and get some gadgets that are generally useful. I have some gadgets that help but know it's really hard now with so many things - and my hands aren't like claws they are just a bit clumsy and feeble so I often curse and wonder what it will be like to be much older and have far worse hand problems than mine one day. Hopefully someone else has a suggestion for you because I don't know the soups you are speaking of I'm afraid. Tilda

Definitely ask for an occupational therapy assessment. Not just for this, but they will go through your whole day with you and help figure out how to deal with things you have problems with. A lot of aids and gadgets can be supplied free, as well as them having a wealth of knowledge about how to actually manage daily tasks easier, so definitely well worth booking in for an assessment. I'd probably ask for an OT review every few years just to keep on top of things, because needs do change.

Take the pack and with all your might hurl it against the wall. Grrrr! I did that with some milk and then had to mop it up. My solution is when I can remember, to not get them. I have a v shape thing to open bottle tops and it works really well. Those tetra packs are awful and the makers made such a lot of money out of them

I agree about the OT though!

I understand your difficulties. May I suggest that you look at a new soup and milk carton opener on the market that I find very useful.

Hello proofreader, thank you very much for that, it looks just the job, will be getting one later to-day.

The containers I really struggle with are the gable soup cartons where the soup has large pieces of veg. I had given up buying them.

Hello Siskin,

This will solve the problem then, as the difficulty I used to have was the seal along the top. Carton Mate actually removes the seal completely! Ihave recommended it to a number of people. I would be interested to hear how you get on with it
