Since taking my medications ( MTX + Hydroxy) I have started to get odd noises in my ears..like ringing or humming..mentioned it to my GP who said it wouldn't be my tablets and probably just wax :/ Does it happen to anyone else.?
Feel sometimes we are given all these meds and a booklet and just left to cope..the last time I phoned Rheumy she told me to see the GP..she was not helpful at all..so sad. Let me know what you think?

Hi I looked up the side effects of hydroxy and they are said to be uncommon and include skin rashes, nausea, diarrhea, headache, bleaching of hair or mild hair loss, blurred vision and tinnitus (ringing in the ear.)
Probably best to ring the Rheumy helpline tomorrow and ask for advice or if not then your GP. I know they weren't helpful last time but maybe you if you tell them you know its a uncommon side effect and you still have the problem since you told them last time they might take notice. But if not then at least they will have to look at your ears and your drug therapy.
If you look at the "Popular tags in Questions" to the right hand side of the page theres lots of advice on hydroxychloroquine for you to look at.
Hope you get it sorted soon as it must be very annoying and worrying on top of your Ra problems.
It sounds like tiinitus i'm afraid. I have had it for 17yrs and i wear a hearing aid. Sadly apart from that i don't think theres much else to help alleviate the problem, but as had been said before see your rheumy or see another dr. Love sylvi.xx
Hi, temporarily had tinitus caused by naproxyn a few years back - I was changed over to diclofenac and it cleared. So dont leave it as it may just be temporary.
I am on MTX and Sulfasalazine. I was on Hydroxy but the specialist took me off as I said I was experiencing tinnitus. Sadly, I still have it and I see on the side effects that Sulfa also has tinnitus listed so not sure which drug is giving me the problem or whether it's not related at all. So sorry you have this too as it's really distracting - sometimes you forget and other times (especially when it's totally quiet) it can be really annoying!
I also get this and it started after I was put on anti-inflammatories, but before starting MTX.
Have just checked my meds and "ringing in the ears" is listed as a "less common" side effect of diclofenac. Would be interesting to know just how many of us have this if it is so uncommon?
Most of the time manage to blank it out but it can sometimes be irritating. Of course now I'm thinking about it its come back. Typical!
yep i have it in my left ear and i am on no tablets had it since april.
think it may be due to the kneck cracking or somthing.
I have put it down to the actual disease itself as I have had it for a while, it effects me more when everything is on fire and making itself well and truly known.
If it started with the start of MTX and Hydroxy then it makes sense that it's caused by one of them to me. If it has it listed in black and white then I think you should just read it out to them over the phone and ask if you can drop it for a week and see what happens as I did with the pins and needles (it made no difference after a week but my RA symptoms got a little worse so I'm back on it now and pins and needles have upped and left).
