This is only in my right ear and started when I increased the dose. I also inject methotrexate. At first it didn't bother me too much but it isn't getting any better. I mentioned the ringing to the nurse specialist and she didn't think it was due to Hydroxychloroquine.
Thanks

I don't have this problem but it has been talked about recently though not specifically HCQ. DrWhoFan posted a question, here's the link healthunlocked.com/nras/que....
I have had the ringing in my left ear and haven't taken Hydroxywhatsit for about a year. I heard that Methotrexate can cause this problem but I have also had a bad ear infection before the Tinnitus. I have had a brain scan which showed nothing. Looks like I may be stuck with this for life.
Oh dear. I hope your ear infection is better now. Good news though about the brain scan not showing anything. I inject methotrexate so maybe that's what's causing the ringing.
Hi, my ear infection is better now thank you very much. Not sure if you meant that you have the tinnitus or you don't have it because you inject rather than taking it orally?
Yes, I do have the ringing in my ears even though I inject Methotrexate. I am not sure what is causing it. I am pleased that your ear infection is better. Take care.
I have had ringing in my ears when I started taking Hydroxychloroquine. I had difficulty at work coz of the constant ringing in my ears. When I mentioned it to my rheumatologist she reduced the dose. After that I dint have any probs. Its better if you try and reduce the dose and see if it makes any difference.
Hi Vandf, I know this is an old post but I wondered if you ever got to the bottom of the tinnitus problem. I'm on hydroxychloroquine and having exactly the same issue. It started a couple of weeks after I started taking the drug. Its like a low hum or pumping noise and makes settling at night difficult. x
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with tinnitus . My rheumatologist suggested that I come off Hydroxy for 2 weeks to see if it stops. It didn't completely go so I started taking Hydroxy again and I am still hearing the ringing noise! I have another appointment next week so will see what happens next. I am more used to the noise now but you are quite right when you say that it makes it difficult to settle at night. Good luck with it. I hope you find some answers.
Thanks for getting back to me, I hope you find some answers too x
