Hi artyone ... Oh dear you poor thing .. have you tried having a cool relaxing bath when you overheat or ask the doctors for diazepam i take them if i need them

debs x

I haven't panicked but I have got exasperated.

Try soaking and wringing out a hand towel in cold water and wrapping it around your neck and shoulders. I am sure this sounds bizarre, but it really helped me.

Or fill a bowl with cold water and soak your feet.

For panicky feelings look up Boteyko breathing technique. Or search youtube for calming breathing methods. I found this with a quick search,

youtube.com/watch?v=vHxS-ds...

but i am sure there are lots of others.

Panic attacks don't always need tablets, but you might need them if you get really bad, so do talk to your GP.

Hi, artyone, it sounds that you are having a hard time with the heat. Had you experienced these symptoms before, or are they new? The trying to cool yourself down and watch out your breathing are very good strategies and Phoebe's video was great. Learning to master your breathing can do wonders not only for your anxiety and stress levels, but also for your physical health. Also behind panic, there always is some sense of fear or danger. Sometimes it may only be about the physical discomfort, which is unpleasant to tolerate, other times it may be about other hidden things that we may not be aware of. When you notice you are panicking, try asking yourself some questions: what is going on? What am I scared of? What am I afraid it may happen? Is this likely to happen? And if it happens, how would I cope with it? Etc.

There is an Australian brilliant web page with lots of free resouorces for psychological symptoms based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I don't remember the URL from the top of my head, but just Google "Centre for clinical interventions" (CCI). The main portal is cci.health.wa.gov.au

But I can't remember the precise address for the panic program. I find their resources so good that I use them with most of my patients.

I have nothing against Diazepam per we, and I have used myself as well in the past sometimes, the problem with it is that it can reinforce in you the idea that you cannot cope without it, and perhaps you would like to try other ways to increase your resilience against panic by yourself. Then all the credit for coping goes straight back to you, not the meds.

Good luck and keep in the shade!

This is a really useful question thanks - I am really trying to find ways to calm my very rapid heart beat and blood pressure and Phoebe's video has helped with breathing techniques. I often feel overwhelmed and panicky these days - seemed to arrive with the RA and get mini panic attacks quite a lot. Certainly don't want to take a drug like diazepam so am concentrating on deep breathing and tai chi when ive got time (none just now whatsoever!).

Re the blisters I read on this that you don't take any RA meds yet so your blisters obviously don't relate to suppressed immune system just now. I have found that my skin has changed a lot over the past few years and I think this must be hormonal re menopause - could be same with you possibly? TTx

Thank you for all your replies. I have suspected lupus and I understand panic can come along with that. It is very strange to me. I will watch the video and do some breathing. I have had what i thought were colds sores all my life. Specialist said they may not be this time have pic to take to her on fri when my lips were covered and my eyelids swollen. What a mes s lol its life . just trying to make it more comy.

thanks all

Poor you I sympathise. It does sound as if there's something else going on for you apart from RA with your skin and your panics and your tummy probs so please lay it on with a trowel when you see your specialist on Friday re worst symptoms and photographs etc because it sounds as if you really need to know what you are dealing with here. I'm sure once you do you will feel relieved and be able to get on and look for support and treatments more effectively. Please let us know how you get on. Tilda x

Soory about caps dint notice them .

Well please make sure they document it properly this time - that's dreadful - how can anybody make a diagnosis of Lupus so flippantly?! But it is very possible to suffer from several autoimmune conditions as they do overlap and many on here have several. Sometimes if feels as though our bodies were like card houses doesn't it?!
